hot end not heating

excuse me but i am totally new to this. prusa mk3+ had for almost 1 year, christmas gift from my son. it is a kit that i put togrther. the board was bad (per prusa tecs) got a new board but was not able to change it till now. problem is goes through all the wizard tests but stops and says first layer calibration not set .went into the set up and am finding that the hotend is not heating up the bed does heat.  I then took it apart and with the hot end not installed , i tried the temperature set up and it did heat up. put back together and now it does not heat up. i am thinkin it may be the wires that go int the hot end. question is is there a way to test using a multimeter  to see what is causing this or someway to test it? i am totally lost now what to do, thinking about getting a new hot end . sure could use your expertise on this it. hopefully some can get me pointed in the diretion i need to get this working.

thanks al

RE: hot end not heating

Yeah, you can ohm out the heater.  I had a heater go bad once and it showed open.  I don't want to lie, I cannot remember the resistance value of the heater, but it's likely a few hundred ohms... If it reads dead open or in the Megohms, it's bad.

Not as high as a few hundred ohms. The nominal value should range from 14 to 15 Ohm. If it's much lower or higher, then either the heating element or the cable/connector are faulty.
