Hot end is overshooting

Hi I just recently installed a new e3d v6 (12v) [30w] hot end on my Prusa i3 mk3 and the temperature is overshooting by a lot. When I preheat for PLA (215/60) the temperature goes up to 298° C and the assembly starts to smoke. I was worried it was going to catch fire. I put on the original mk3 thermistor and still had the same results.

I ran the PID tune a couple of times but the problem is still persisting. It seems like the heat up time is so fast that the thermistor and the PID cant catch it and regulate the heating in time. I read on the e3d assembly that the heather cartridge "MAX_PWM" should be set to 150, but haven't found a way to implement this on the mk3. Has anyone ran into this problem before or have any tips on how to fix it?

Wrong heater unit. The MK3 uses a 24 volt cartridge.
A 12 volt cartridge will immediately overheat just as you have demonstrated.

Wow, thanks.  I realized I purchased the wrong heaters.

Appears to work, otherwise.  Guessing the 24v will eventually break the heater unit.  Will get replacements as soon as they are available again, most places are sold out. 🙁
