It would appear that the nozzle does not have a good seal. Review instructions for nozzle swap.

A week ago I changed my nozzle to a .6mm hardened steel nozzle on my mk3s+ (2nd nozzle change for the printer). After printing with wood filled, PETG, and PLA on it I noticed a blob on the top of the heater block. There appears to be a slight bit around the nozzle as well. When I changed the nozzle I thought I did it correctly, maybe not.

That's a definite sign of a leak, usually caused by the nozzle not being properly tightened up against the heatbreak at 285C. It's an easy fix, no need to stress.

I’ll probably end up changing the nozzle again but I don’t know if and how I should clean the blob off the top of the heater block. I’ve attached pictures of the block and nozzle. Any other tips are appreciated.

If you don't want to tear down the extruder unnecessarily, you can always use wooden toothpicks or strips of cardboard to reach into that area. Just be careful around the delicate hotend wires. I find removing the fan duct is usually sufficient to clean things up.

E3D has a good guide for changing the nozzle on their V6 hotend. The important bit is that when the heatbreak is screwed into the heater block properly, the nozzle should not be flush against the block when fully tightened under full heat.
