Freaking out - Differences in imported GCode Config vs manual Setup Slicer - Export (Benchy Sample)

Hey,

i recently got here the Help/Answer how to extract Slicer Settings from a gcode.

Iam talking about the "Expert Showroom Benchy Print Skills" 🤪

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/3161-3d-benchy/files

theres a Presliced file that Prints out....i cant say better.....the "perfect" Boat with a best looking "hull line"

The journey began as i wanted to print a bigger version of the Benchy.

So i imported that "Config" from that presliced file that is:

generated by PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-alpha3+184-win64 on 2020-02-04 at 18:53:08 UTC

i compared bit by bit my or even Stock settings to it, printed alot of benchies now and ALL of them never reached the quality of the Hull Line of the Presliced file.

At the End i throw all my settings away, imported the gcode (config) file and just clicked "Slice" and Printed that .......summary:

Nope its not the same.

Now iam at the End of my ideas what i could do to find the secret sauce to get back the smooth Benchy hull like the "Prusa file"

Pics attached for comparision with Lights coming from the Top to show as ugly as possible.

....i tried a cura sliced file -> fail

... i installed Prusa Slicer 2.3.3 for a test. Imported the gcode......sliced -> Print.......same "hull line" issue.

...now i try an old S3D Slicer....

Take a deep breath. This seems more likely to be a mechanical issue than a slicing issue. Check your pully grub screws and belts. This knowledge base article explains how: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/layer-shifting_2020

Also turn off your printer and move your x axis and y axis by hand. Do they move smoothly?

If mechanical why the "presliced" makes superb finish?

i thought also after 15 benchies that i may have belt problems or stuff like that and printed again after all that testing another "presliced" and it looks same superb as the 1st one.

all axis are smooth.

I didn't quite understand your posts then. Does the old g-code still print the way you want?

yes. the "Presliced file" from Prusa gives out a "perfect" looking shape/hull.

if i import those settings and compare them option by option the quality doesnt reach that file whats made on " PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-alpha3"

i want to print a 250% scale model of the benchy. if theres a way to scale a gcode let me know 😛

This one is a puzzle for sure. You probably know that you can preview that successful gcode file and at least look at the model. Are your slicing tests rotated to the exact same orientation? That can make a difference.

Well now I'm curious. Would you be willing to zip up that superb finish gcode and your PrusaSlicer test .3mf and post them so I can take a look?

The "secret sauce" is the Prusa developers! Careful reading of https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/the-benchy-hull-line_124745 reveals that they modified the model and manually modified the gcode at one point to print 2 or more perimeter layers and then went back to do the infill for those layers. PrusaSliser won't do that, so the moment you slice a benchy with the settings from the gcode you lose the benefit and revert to "normal" hull line.
