Forever hot-ed bed ?
Hiya,
Looking at the progress of my longest - so far - print (6h), at mid course, i realized that the hot bed was of course still hot and this made my wondered why we couldn't stop it after a few millimeters or centimeters to be energy efficient. Is the 60° still usefull after a given height ? Would it make the piece more prone to move if we stopped it ? Has anybody tried ?
Tx,
P.
RE: Forever hot-ed bed ?
to better detail my concern, i mean stopping it for exemple after 5 centimeters, not 5 layers, so that we can't really change properties of bottom layers nor the heat transmission to above layers.
RE: Forever hot-ed bed ?
Because cooling down the bed after having reached some mm height in z axis would cause a shrinking of the bed and the printed part - but the printed part much more than the bed - this will make the printed part to become loose on the bed and falling off. So the bed needs to be heated the whole printing process.

RE: Forever hot-ed bed ?
The pei surface is designed so that filament sticks above a certain temperature and releases when cooled. If you turned the heated bed off your part stands a very good chance of detaching and you would get either a blob or spaghetti monster which potential damage to your extruder hotend.
