First layer heights lower than 0.15mm with a 0.15mm nozzle
So a maximum layer height of max 80% of nozzle diameter seems to be recommended, but my MK3S+ does not seem to want to go below 0.15mm Z.
When printing with a 0.15mm nozzle the max recommended layer height is then 0.12mm which the printer cannot do.
Any recommendations? 🙂 Anyone used these nozzles before?
FYI i use a Revo Six hotend with the new 0.15mm nozzle.
RE: First layer heights lower than 0.15mm with a 0.15mm nozzle
.15mm minimum first layer is set in firmware, you may have to edit the firmware if you actually want to force a lower layer height
However... if you dispense with figures and squint at the issue...
the actual nozzle to build plate gap is set by Live Z adjustment. and is not exactly accurate...
sooo...
your nozzle is 0.15mm, the slicer will think it is supplying enough filament for a 0.15 layer height layer,
Adjusting Live Z, using a flat base model, should allow you to get a good first layer, which may, or may not be exactly 0.15mm thick, after that, your slicer will work on the chosen layer height, which may be 0.1mm, or smaller as you wish, and the model should build nicely.
as long as you are wary of unsupported slope angle (Which small diameter nozzles struggle with). you should be good to go, without changing the firmware
choose a simple test model, and give it a go...

RE: First layer heights lower than 0.15mm with a 0.15mm nozzle
Thanks for the detailed answer Joan. I had thought about levering the live z into tricking the printer to make it work, but i had hoped for a solution that did not require me to change it on the printer everytime i had to use the 0.15mm nozzle. Is there a gcode command to change the live z? What about the Z Offset feature in PrusaSlicer, could that work?
RE: First layer heights lower than 0.15mm with a 0.15mm nozzle
I never use Z offset. However I suspect that it would refuse. To go below 1.5mm.
You need to do live Z when you change a nozzle.
There is no guarantee that any two nozzles will be the same length
