Just lost a 14 hour print that shouldn't have happened. Running 3.8.1-2869 on my MK3. I had long ago turned off the filament sensor because it kept "falsing", but had forgotten that detail. I was close to the end of the print and also close to the end of the spool. I have become very adept at pushing a new filament "down the rabbit hole" when necessary but I was going to be unavoidably called away from the printer for an unknown period. Instead of pausing the print (which in retrospect I should have), I went into the Tune drop-down and turned the filament sensor "On". Immediately, it stopped printing and went into filament changing mode. This seemed odd, but I went through the exercise, removed the filament and immediately reloaded it. The machine started to "resume", but as soon as the nozzle lowered into position, the (as I now realize faulty) sensor initiated the filament change operation again. I did EVERYTHING possible I could to salvage the print, including taking out and cleaning the sensor board (not easy to do mid-print), but it just kept repeating the error. Finally I had no choice but to do a restart. Pissed doesn't really describe my displeasure at this outcome. So now I think the F/W needs to include the additional selection of "Turn filament sensor off" on the same screen which displays "Load (new) filament (or words to that effect). But, lesson learned: the filament sensor is a feature best left turned off.
