Filament stuck detection working?

Hello,

About a month ago i got the MK3S kit. I assembled it and really like the printer so far. The past few days though I've had a problem with extrusion. A couple of times i started a print and came back a few hours later to find the extruder clicking away. I think i found my problem the first couple of times (the tension gear shaft had fallen off the holder which apparently is something that happens). It happened one more time and I'm in the process of figuring why that happened.

I'm writing here not so much about the extrusion problem, though, since I'm still troubleshooting that but because i was under the impression that after 3.4.0 the filament stuck detection would work and stop a print if the filament is not advancing and the extruder misses steps. Apparently this is not the case. Is there a setting i have to change or something? I'm running 3.5.3 (planning to update to 3.6.0 soon).

Thank you,
Stratos

Re: Filament stuck detection working?

it does not have "filament stuck" detection..... never will.

So it never worked or what? I've seen the post where it's advertised and the videos during the release where it was mentioned again... I'm confused 😕

The 3S's sensor design does not support it, and simply never will be able to unless they have started (or are) doing skipped step/overcurrent detection on the extruder.

For the Mk3 the sensor was a motion sensor and had the capability to sense filament motion - though how well it worked is the topic of many discussions, mods, and workarounds here to improve its issues with certain colours and types of filament.

Gitcha. Thanks for the clarification. It's disappointing since the way i got the advertisement was that it was part of the automation MK3 was offering.

The printer is great nonetheless...

The Mk3, yes. The 3s, unfortunately not (the entirety of the upgrade was mostly to reduce the preavalent issue of false positives with the original sensor)

... Did you buy a Mk3 and then get shipped a 3S?

No i ordered and got the 3S. But my understanding was that this feature was part of the automation of the new version (MK3 or MK3S). I didn't know the intricacies or details of this. It would be a great feature to have to be honest and i thought it was solved the same way as the x/y skipped steps was and not with the sensor. I hope they put it in soon using the extruders motor feedback...
