Filament stuck after filament sensor detects break

On my printer any time the filament sensor detects no filament, the eject mechanism fails. I have to open the filament access door and reach in with a long nose pliers to remove the stub that is left. Is this a known issue? What can I do to make the eject mechanism work? This happens with PLA, ABS and PETg, so is not a material issue. I can hear the bondtec gears go in reverse, but the filament is not ejected. MK3S up to date.

This can happen when the end of the filament is not straight but bent. I was printing a lot of Sunlu PETG, and what you described happened every time because the way they anchored the filament end in the spool gave it a sharp bend. I ended up snipping that end off when the spool came close to empty.

RE: Filament stuck after filament sensor detects break

is this happening at the end of a reel of filament?

or does it also jam if you cut the filament during a run?  (When the filament is less bent)

one possible issue, is, that at the end of a reel, the last bit of filament often has a bend in it, where the manufacture tucked the beginning of the filament into a hole in the reel, to start it winding onto the reel. as the end of the filament is drawn into the extruder, the filament is straightened, by the extruder filament path, but the moment the end of the filament gets into the filament sensor ball chamber, the bend is released, and the end of the filament deflects away from the hole that it entered the extruder through. and the extruder cannot push the filament back out.

one of my filament suppliers  3DQF, have designed filament reels, where you can cut the bent end off the filament from outside the reel. and this is supposed to stop the filament jamming in the filament sensor.

I wish more companies did this,

If you can see the end before the printer does, you can cut it off...
