Filament stops feeding during print

Hi!

We have a MK3S printer. It used to print fine. During the last few prints the printer stops feeding the filament and the print fails. There is a strange squeeze/dent in the filament when i unload it. It´s located just a few centimeters above the end of the filament (where it´s fed into the nozzle). See attached image for reference.

Any suggestions how to fix this?

RE: Filament stops feeding during print

what filament, what temperatures for extruder and bed?
first layer?  or mid print?
this could be caused by a blockage in the nozzle/ heatbreak area, or the filament could be getting jammed, going into the extruder.
What size nozzle are you using? what layer height?

what does the end of the filament look like?

what is the printer doing when this happens? is it doing a lot of retractions? what size retractions are you using?

what is the ambient temperature? is it high?    is the printer in an enclosure?

Have you tried a cold pull? to clean the nozzle out?

Regards Joan

RE: Filament stops feeding during print

Hi Joan!

Sorry for the lack of details. See my answers in red below.

Thank you so much.

what filament, what temperatures for extruder and bed? PLA with standard temperatures 60 bed and 215 extruder
first layer? or mid print?  it always happens mid print, first layer works fine
this could be caused by a blockage in the nozzle/ heatbreak area, or the filament could be getting jammed, going into the extruder.
What size nozzle are you using? what layer height? standard nozzle 0,4

what does the end of the filament look like? see attached images

what is the printer doing when this happens? is it doing a lot of retractions? what size retractions are you using? not sure what you mean here. the last prints were approx 15x15 cm and around 1 cm thick with 10% - 20% infill.

what is the ambient temperature? is it high? is the printer in an enclosure? ambient temeprature is around 18-20 °C. printer ist free standing, no enclosure. also no persons or other movement in the room.

Have you tried a cold pull? to clean the nozzle out? not yet

Regards Joan

Good morning A5,
the end of your filament is swollen, which suggests that the filament has jammed in or just above the nozzle.
Could you try a couple of Cold Pulls, to see if there is any rubbish in the nozzle?

here is a link to the Prusa knowledge base article which may help

@joantabb

So i did a few cold pulls yesterday. Everything was fine, no rubbish came out. Did a print which lasted around 6 hrs. Printer did not stop feeding midprint. Basically nothing changed, but the print went through. Lets see how it works during the next prints.

Hello,

Found this while searching for a solution, I have the exact same thing happening, cold pull = no change.  I am wondering if it has to do with the feed rollers?
