Filament sensor not responding after firmware update

I have an original MK3. Factory built. Haven't printed in a while and did a test print. Lost adhesion on the first layer and so I aborted it.

Before starting the print again, I saw there was a new firmware and so II upgraded to it - 3.6.0. Successfully flashed.

But immediately after the update, now the filament sensor can't be found! Printer settings shows filament sensor as "N/A" and clicking that it says "filament sensor not responding.

What happened? How do I get my filament sensor back? Has worked for about a year with no issues and worked today just before I upgraded the firmware.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Filament sensor not responding after firmware update

Did you grab the Mk3S firmware by accident?

Yes! 🙁

I did grab the MK3S firmware by mistake. Used to having the latest printer, but I hadn't printed (or updated firmware) in quite a while and I guess the MK3S came out in the meantime.

So...factory reset. Then flashed to 3.6.0 again making SURE that I got the MK3 version this time. Will report back in a few.

After flashing to 3.6.0 MK3 firmware....still getting filament sensor not responding. Says check wiring. But seeing as I did not unplug any wiring and it's all factory-built, I'm guessing there isn't actually anything wrong with the wiring?

Any ideas anyone?

I know I'm asking a stupid question, but only because I've done it enough times myself I know it happens: Did you flash the right version? Or by chance you select the same 3.6.0 file as the first run?

Re: Filament sensor not responding after firmware update

Not a stupid question! I definitely flashed with Mk3 the second time. I'm not certain if the original (MK3S) flash was the culprit...or if it's just 3.6.0.

I know that people have had various problems with the sensor not recognizing particular brands or translucencies of filaments. But has anyone else had their sensor stop responding after upgrading firmware? Or am I the only unlucky one. Have now re-flashed 3.6.0. twice. Cycled power off and on multiple times. Still no joy.

Suggestion anyone? Must I just contact Prusa?

Re: Filament sensor not responding after firmware update

Prusa has been chasing defects in the firmware regarding the Mk3 motion sensing detector. In simple plain terms, I think they are lost on how to fix it. I leave mine off. It just causes way too many problems. And yes, I'd read several posts about the sensor not working after the last few updates. You might try flashing whatever version you had that worked for you.

I see. Thanks for the info. That's a good idea. I'll try to re-flash to a previous version (it's been a while and so I don't know which version I had on there before). Do you think the version immediately previous to 3.6 is good or did trouble start even before that and I should go back more? I guess I can do trial and error but if you (or anybody else who reads this) can suggest a fairly stable/less-troublesome version, that would be great.

Re: Filament sensor not responding after firmware update

Somewhere after 3.4.x or so - especially 3.5.0 is where the sensor issues multiplied for me.- but even 3.4 was not working well with most of the color spectrum I use. I am now using Minouts 3.5.1 7x7 build from Github - with sensor turned off. I'm very happy with the 7x7 bed cal over the 3x3 cal: worlds better.

Word is he also has a 3.6 build - but I've not installed it yet. Same thread says Prusa is adopting his mod and it will be in the release channel very soon.

Re: Filament sensor not responding after firmware update

May be worth resetting the printer to factory defaults. It seems unlikely, but be worth it just in case there's something in eeprom saying "This is a Mk3s and you should be looking for this sensor type".
