Filament Sensor
I have had my printer for about 2 months now and I had a print where I ran out of filament. The head just kept moving along through the air and continued until the print ended however and obviously the thing was only 1/2 done. I thought there was a sensor to detect and stop printing if this happened. Am I wrong or do I need to purchase some other upgrade to have this work if your spool runs out?

You may have missed activating the filament sensor.
Look in the "Settings / Filament sensor" menu which should be On.

I checked the wiring and it looks right according to the pictures and the settings button has filament sensor (on). So I am assuming that means it is on?

Check in the support menu the status of the sensor. If it´s "on" always even if there is no filament loaded, try to loosen the top lid screw of the extruder a turn or two - does the status switch to "off" if there is no filament loaded?

Is your printer grinding? Bearings squeaking? Motors smoking?

I will make the IR sensor spacer set now.
But let me report what happened.
In the Menu there is an option to switch filament sensor on and off.
This Software option has been triggered somehow by itself to off. I definitly not played around an accidentally switched it to off.
The last Days I printed dozends of chunks of filament in longer printsessions. Sometimes 10 cm short and thereby checked the capability of the filament sensor, that was working mostly as expected.
Sometimes the filament ends , the sensor sees this,
printer asking for unload the piece in the nozzle, but
extruder is unable to move it out.
To rescue the print i confirm the unloading (Autoload is on) . then
I load new filament that is recognized and
extruder spools noisyly grinding the filament in.
Print could be continue.
so far ok, but since two filament ends now there is
no recognition of filament end anymore. I searched the forum found various things, searched for Filament sensors output signal and
found the option to switch the Filament sensor off.
And It said FilamentSensor [OFF]. I think the Firmware must have somehow made this without asking my permission.

I found the sensor is set to 1 permanetly
By dismanteling a 6mm long chunck of filament dia 1.7mm fell out.
The sensor compartment has somewhere space for this blocking size.
However it came in there, This should not be possible by design.

I've never had much luck getting the piece of filament to unload after a runout. I always have to open the side to remove it. I'm sure there are ways to solve it, but I've had a full plate lately......maybe someone will pop in and leave a post with tips!
