Filament sensor
Hi all,
Just got my new mk3 and assembled it. Super stoked to get printing, but my self test keeps failing... 🙁
Having an issue with the filament sensor on self test. I continually get a failure due to "filament wiring error".
Here's my connections:
I've tested continuity between both connectors, which is fine.
I have noticed there is an extra pin on the bottom row on the board in the rambo housing, which doesn't seem to be present in any of the install pictures. Not sure if this is related.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
P.S. apologies for the ridiculously tall first picture 😆
Re: Filament sensor
Did you overcome this issue? I'm having the same problem with the mk3 that I assembled over the weekend.
thanks.
Re: Filament sensor
No, nothing yet. Still waiting for feedback..
I'm going to try updating the firmware when I get home from work, but my hopes aren't very high for that fixing the issue.
Interesting that we both have this problem with brand new printers that we built over the weekend.
Re: Filament sensor
Switch off the filament sensor and ignore it. I think it may be a troublesome component, and does not add any essential feature.
Retired doc, should have been an engineer.
Re: Filament sensor
The filament sensor cable is not symmetric. One end has a 4-position plug and the other has 5-positions. Please check the assembly instructions carefully as it will not work if installed incorrectly.

Re: Filament sensor
@ henry in the LCD menu > settings > Fil. sensor [on.off] you can not disable the sensor because it hasn't passed the self check. Is there another way to disable it?
The cable connector asymmetry is understood. I can measure 5v in and ground on the correct pins. It still fails self check for a wiring error. I've double checked wire continuity and for shorts, but have found no issues. I've also upgraded to the latest Firmware with no help.
Thanks for the replies. Any other troubleshooting tips are appreciated.
Re: Filament sensor
David,
I went into the calibration and ran the XYZ calib manually, and I was able to run a print with no problems. So i guess you can just ignore it for now?
They're sending me a new filament sensor, so I'll post an update when I get it.
Cheers,
Re: Filament sensor
I was able to get a hold of tech support and they're sending me a new sensor. It looks like mine was just a defect part. With out moving forward with the self check, I was able to unplug the sensor and continue with the setup and initial prints. 😀
I'll retry the filament sensor when the new one arrives.
Re: Filament sensor
Update:
Got the new filament sensor, installed, and everything works fine now
Re: Filament sensor
I got mine new sensor today as well. I noticed the one i got was a newer version than the previous one. I just plugged it in and everything works great! 😀
