Filament oozing while doing bed leveling

My MK3S+ oozes filament while doing the bed leveling procedure.  I use a 7x7 leveling option and during that period the filament oozes out about 10 mm.  Is this normal?  Because of this I need to watch my first layer and wipe off the ooze, or it gets dragged around and potentially ruins the first layer.  The wipe done at the front of the plate, just before any skirt is printed, does not always clean it off.

Any ideas on how to eliminate or minimize this?

Its not uncommon and for that reason they changed the startup gcode for the Mini to cool the nozzle down before the MBL.

one good starting point is Bob's startup gcode:

Be aware that it's much worse with damp filament.  Drying usually reduces it to an occasional issue as long as you clear any ooze at or just before before the head shake as the machine reaches temperature.

Cheerio,
