Filament on hotplate after replacing hot end

Hi, I had to replace my hotend a while back everything came together fine and all the self test's came back okay. except when I get to the part where the first layer calibration starts. My printer will start feeding filament and will just keeping pulling filament through the nozzle leaving an ever increasing pool of filament around the nozzle. I think I remember it doing the same thing when I started printing but I don't remember what I did to fix it.

I'm trying to go through all the troubleshooting steps I can without taking it apart again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

My first impression is that the Z calibration is off.  Have you done a successful Z calibration since you replaced the hot end?

I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the IR filament sensor.

You can disable the filament sensor via the front control panel, as a sanity check.

I'll have to remember that for the future. Turns out the cable for the IR sensor wasn't plugged in all the way.
