Filament got stuck again

I went to print today and when I pulled out the old filament, it didn't come all the way out. I tried the various "heat it up, let it drip", "try to push it out", etc, but none of it worked, so I had to take it apart again.

When I got it apart, it seemed like the filament had caught on the very bottom lip of the PTFE tube. After removing that, I was able to heat it up and push the rest out.

Now, maybe the lesson is to **always** remove the filament immediately at the end of a job, but I was wondering if this was a symptom? Maybe I have a gap or something at the end of the tube that catches filament?

Or is it just that filament gets brittle after sitting for a while. The filament between the spool and the top of the print head _did_ spontaneously snap just sitting there (which was probably a warning sign!)

RE: Filament got stuck again

I have found that it usually due to a gap that allows expansion of melted filament into the gap and it dry and sticks.  I have found it happens every time I overheat the filament.

@charles-h13

I love that you are a "Famed Member"! Also, I now see a ["Related Topics"]( https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/prusa-edition-heat-break-easily-jam-clog-with-pla/) that looks like it applies exactly. I'll go through the 10 (!) pages.
