Feeling electricity on my laptop when connected to the same outlet as the MK3
Hi,
I have a strange issue and need some technical help. Even if I switch off the Prusa MK3 PSU on the small switch on it...
if the printer is connected to the same electricity outlet as my laptop (with charger) I feel electricity on the laptop. (tried bringing the printer and laptop to a neighbor just to make sure it's not home wiring for some reason, but that was a long shot since it starts and stops depending on the printer connection)
Does anyone know what this could be? It happens only if the printer and laptop are on the same outlet (even though the printer is turned off on the small switch).
If I disconnect the printer from the plug (I've also tried 2 more power cables) physically it stops.
I don't know what to do and this really doesn't make a ton of sense to me because I don't know the reason why would a device affect another one in this way.

It is important that you connect the printer and computer to grounded electrical outlets.

All sorts of reasons for ungrounded equipment to not behave properly. - including the Mk3. On the Mk3, the chassis is grounded by screws into the power supply; but these screws are on painted surfaces and not really certain to connect well. The electronics, and USB port, are not connected to ground. Instead, they float using the isolation of the power supply. Computer power supplies come in all sorts. Some use grounded designs (3-wire), some use polarized designs (2-wire, one large prong); and others use non-polar designs (2-wire same size prongs). In most cases with 2-wire designs the computer can float. This collection sets up some great possibilities for odd things to happen, including a buzzing sensation when you touch something. It's real. It's from stray currents rippling between the two devices. If the computer is 2-wire, non-polar, simply reversing the plug can help.
However, it is also possible the AC wiring you are plugging into is not correct. A non-electrician generally doesn't know that the different prong size is important for safety and often connect them wrong. Too often by my experience. An AC circuit polarity tester is cheap insurance.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't want to open the PSU and check because warranty?
Anyway. It was tested with multiple wires. All of my outlets are grounded. That is why I was even checking at the neighbors for sanity check. The problem lies that it happens only when the Prusa is connected Hmm. I'll borrow a new laptop probably an ole macbook? because of metal H_M 😀 to isolate him also, but it happens only with both Prusa PSU and the HP EliteBook 840 G5 PSU.
I've also did all combination with the orientation to make sure I connect Live to Live and Neutral to Neutral (basically 00, 01, 10, 11 combos). I do know from smart home work that some devices can be sensitive to that. I even disabled all my circuits (yes even the fridge) to isolate a "third" party 😀
I really don't like to get buzzed by electricity. Isn't good for my Anxiety 😀

No need to pull apart the printer PS to check grounds, just ohm between the aluminum case and the AC ground pin coming out. Should be close to 0 ohms. As a data point, my HP notebook does NOT buzz when connected to the printer USB.
