Fan short circuit caused printer to brick

I decided to document my today's experience, just in case if anyone comes to similar experience:

I experienced the most odd situation today. Yesterday i printed new parts for fan mount (R3) and installed them. All appeared ok and since it was late i went to bed.
Today i decided to print double fan mount and started to print. Then weird part started: after first layer printer suddenly stopped printing and LCD started to show odd signs all across it. Then printer bricked. Totally. Even power cycle didn't help (see my first video). It stayed "freezed". Luckily i was able to re-flash firmware and revive the printer, but flashing went slower than normal and during flashing LCD was blinking all the time, which i found very odd (second video). However, it seemed that all is ok - preheating went ok and again i started printing. Story repeated... After second bricking and revival i re-sliced part "just in case" and tried again - of course it didn't help - same thing happened third time.

After third revival i decided to run selftest. LCD started to blink at cooling fan test and reported bad fan! VOILA!!! I unmounted the fan and found the cause: black and red wires were shorted, while yellow was broken off. Surely i caused this when installing new parts, i accept that. But funny thing is that odd behaviour and, as it seems, overwriting / corrupting firmware in einsy... how it this even possible?

I uploaded two videos on my web site, since 200MB is too big for attachment:

bricking printer and re-flashing blinking

So, WATCH OUT FOR THESE WIRES!!!

Re: Fan short circuit caused printer to brick

It's likely that the black and red wires shorting together were causing power disruption in the Einsy. This would explain the odd behavior, especially if the shorting was intermittent. Did the problem resolve itself after replacing the fan ?

I didn't have to replace fan, i just resoldered all 3 wires. Luckily i didn't burn anything, like mosfet for fan control or 5V voltage regulator...

OK, i can understand that 5V power was disrupted with short cirtuit, but what's odd is that firmware was corrupted with this... How can this be? I'm working with AVR's quite a lot so i know these MCU's and it confuses me...
