Failed PSU. Looking for a cause

Yesterday when turning on my MK3S the PSU immediately started making sizzling noises (and later tripped the GFCI outlet). I worked with Prusa support, but ultimately ended up buying a new PSU. Taking apart the old one I was expecting some blown caps, but those look fine. It looks like the transformer failed and got all melty.

Any ideas on what could have caused this? Previous print was 15 hours. Extruder at 200, bed at 50 on US power. Print succeeded just fine. I originally bought Prusa to avoid poor quality parts that would cause a fire hazard. Really worried that the next power supply might fail, or worse catch fire.

Just bought a kill-a-watt to test power loads for the new one. Any other ideas to test the new one?

RE: Failed PSU. Looking for a cause

I have 8 MK3s printers.  I have only one failed PSU.  I replaced it.  I rarely print when I am not at home.  I have the same concern.

Turns out these photos are worthless. The transformer isn't melty...that's the glue used to hold it in place. The PSU is still dead, but not sure what failed.
