Failed Firmware Upgrade, Front Printer Fan Self Test Error and Filament Feeding Tube

I recently purchased this used Prusa i3 MK3 as my first 3D Printer.  It arrived with several issues.  I purchased new mounts for the cracked display mounts and a new power supply as the original one was removed from the printer and apparently had issues.  So the printer powers up and software seemed to be in working order.

1. The first thing I did was upgrade the firmware from 3.3.1-845 to 3.13.2.  After the firmware was successfully written I get an error message at the end

"avrdude-slic3r: arduino_open(): Failed to initialize MK3 external flash programme"

I did reboot the printer and the firmware seems updated and all menu items are there.   Should I be doing something to correct this error and if so what

2. Second issue I have is that the self-test fails on the Front Printer Fan.  The fan does spin up and during one iteration, the software asked me if the left fan was off and the front fan was running to which I answered yes and it continued.   It spent a long time on the Z-printer axis test after that and so left it for a bit and came back to see the printer at the opening screen.  So not sure if it passed.  Ran again and it failed at the printer fan.   I did have to repair the mount for the fan shroud that blows air around the nozzle and it might not be seated 100% correct.  If I ever get a 3D printer to work, I will print myself a new one.  Could this be the problem?  (see the picture of this item, repaired, below.

3. The third issue I have is that there appears to be a piece missing for the feeding of the filament.  Looks like a plastic part is missing as shown in the picture below.  Do I only have to get/print that plastic part or are there further issues?   I have not found the stl file of the official Prusa part so would like to know where I can obtain it.

Thanks in advance, Mark

RE: Failed Firmware Upgrade, Front Printer Fan Self Test Error and Filament Feeding Tube

You are correct, This printer is the Mk3 not Mk3S or Mk3S+

the orange part is the Part Fan Shroud (Usually printed in ASA)  (You can print it in PETG, without a fan shroud)

You also appear to be missing a top cap for the extruder and a tiny plug, to fill the dust removal hole in the extruder idler door.

the parts should be found at
https://www.printables.com/model/88240-i3-mk3-printable-parts

the three parts that I can see, missing, should be in the attached Zip File

regards Joan

nozzle-fan

the fan shroud is actually called Nozzle - Fan

You rock!!

Thanks so much.

Any thoughts on the failed message on the firmware install?  Maybe ignore and see how it works once I have the new parts?

Did you use Prusa Slicer to Flash the firmware?

prusa3d_fw_3_13_2_MK3

Is this the ACTUAL firmware that you downloaded?
 version prusa3d_fw_MK3_3_13_2_7080

3.13.2 has different sub versions

for example

prusa3d_fw_MK3S_MK3S+_3_13_2_7080   Is not appropriate

It's ever so easy to get the wrong version...

FInally made it home.  Long day!!

Here is the firmware I installed.  prusa3d_fw_MK3_3_13_2_7080.hex   So it looks correct.

I see your location as Halifax UK.  Lucky not Halifax, Nova Scotia.  They got hit with a doozy of a snowstorm!.   I live in Canada but in Ontario.

Hi Mark

I am lucky to not be in the storm....

Yes it looks like the correct firmware!

I suggest that you do a factory reset, including  clearing all data, and then reload the firmware again.

Thought I'd jump in here.

avrdude-slic3r: arduino_open(): Failed to initialize MK3 external flash programme

Actual is normally when the computer software in this case prusa slicer carnt send stuff to com ports i see this alot when downloading to mother boards.

I'm presuming your on windows since it's normally windows you get these errors . You could try reinstall prusa slicer. To see if it fixes it otherwise don't worry about it if the printer looks like it's installed the firmware then it will be fine.

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

Thank you Hello.

It seemed to open the port from my Windows computer using the Prusa Slicer, wrote the firmware and installed it.   It is only at the very end that it seemed to have an issue and it does display the new firmware version and all menus seem to be there.   I will try printing a few parts once I update some of the parts on this printer and will report back to the forum under this post.

HI yes I very much guessed you were on windows as I normally only see those errors on windows. It should work fine now though.
