Extruder no longer extrudes
Hi folks.
My extruder no longer moves filament through the system.
I opened the door on the right side and I can see the stepper motor turning but the gear no longer is moving.
I'll have to take it apart and look at what's up.
My question(s):
- Anyone else ever had this problem?
- Think it's the grub screw? (I am hoping so)
My printer is 4 months old and this isn't something I would expect to happen in such a short amount of time.
RE: Extruder no longer extrudes
If the motor turns and the gear doesn't turn, the gear is loose on the shaft.
RE: Extruder no longer extrudes
So, after popping things and doing manual extruder moves the grub screw was completely loose and the gear would just spin
So adjusted motor until flat side was towards me, slid gear over, and tighten the grub screw.
Now, of course, how did this happen?! It had been printing like a champ until it no longer printed anything..
RE: Extruder no longer extrudes
Make sure one of the grub screws is tightened onto the flat on the motor shaft, sounds like this was not done originally.
Thats why one is on the flat, to avoid this scenario.
Tank you very much!

@clarmrrsn
Yep, just seems super weird to work for the last 3 months then .. whammo!
RE: Extruder no longer extrudes
Give the grubs a good nip up, but dont over tighten them. Tighten onto the motor flat first, then the other one, the heads strip very easily so dont go nuts
Its easy to forget about the flat, I did it on my other printer on a z motor. The grubs only need to slightly loosen for the pulley to start spinning.

So far so good, things are holding.
I only find 1 grub screw for the flat side - the gear doesn't have any other grubs nor holes for them.
RE: Extruder no longer extrudes
There should be two, I'm pretty sure. With only one, it will eventually wiggle loose again.
RE: Extruder no longer extrudes
No, the Bondtech gears on the extruder only have a single screw. The motor pulleys on the other axis have 2.

It's been a while since I was that deep in the muck. Thanks.
