Extruder motor overheating in enclosure (FW 3.2.0-RC1)?

Well, the topic says it all. Who has the MK3 in an fully closed enclosure and did a longer print with the new 3.2.0-RC1 firmware?
Last print I did failed terribly with kind of soft/squished filament in the extruder. Also was the Nema motor really really hot, not just "very warm", I think it was about 70-80°C.

Any other experiences with enclosures and the MK3?

These motors are designed to work up to 100oC so no worries.

Well, maybe there are no worries on the motor side but maybe the heat is transfering to the bondtech gears and tose are heating the PLA before the gears causing the clog? As seen in this thread:

Yeah, okay, they work up to 100°C. But as Miquel mentioned, what about the problem, that the heat will be transfered to the gears and then to the PLA. I see no problem, when you can print some big lines with alot of material for filling or what ever. But when a print comes to an end and you're gcode has a lot of retractions in it, the PLA will getting hotter and hotter, no?

And why is the extruder this much overpowered? On my MK2S the extruder motors arent even "very warm".

RC2 lowers the extruder amps. So yeah that should fix this problem. Of course you need to worry when the filament melts. Lol for that answer:-)

To be clear, there is no RC2. THere are commits to the current baseline, but at this point it's pure conjecture that there will be another RC.

Extruder motor melted part of my extruder..

I now have three 10x10mm heatsinks on it. I only had one on it previously. Hopefully that will help.

Of course. They changed the version string days ago.

It is not finished yet.

All I am trying to say: do not spend to much time trying to fix issues that the software will fix soon.

In the next release, the holding power is being reduced for the extruder and x/y from what I can tell. I am running it now from today's latest commit, and my extruder is running a cool 45C. Hopefully, this is great news for those having temperature issues. So far the changes they have made since the 3.2.0 RC1 have been very positive. I've got about 4 hours of great prints so far. On another note it is exactly the same temp as my MK2S, which is a good thing.

Well this are definitely good news. I already started with ideas, how to cool down the extruder for longer prints. 😀

I think it is X/Y stays the same, E current gets lowered and Z raised.

Would you mind posting your build? I'm having issues where I can't print any of my eSun PLA+ because it binds up inside the gear housing. A cooler extruder motor sounds amazing to me.

Here you go. This is the latest and greatest. I take no responsibility for its reliability nor function, but it is unmodified from the source found at githib.com/prusa3d. Sorry for the all the mumbo-jumbo, but it's a strange world these days.

He must have done it shortly afterward. Great! That gives me more confidence in it.
