Extruder Motor not advancing
I've had the MK3 since Christmas and recently had problems with filaments not loading.
I've done the following:
- disabled the IR sensor
- removed the extruder idler assembly
- removed the fs cover
- checked for blockage/lose filament
When I try to Load Filament (without filament) and observer the gear, I hear motor noise but the gear wiggled and does not advance.
When I try to manually move the extruder motor (Settings > Move Axis > Extruder), the motor makes noise wiggles but does not advance.
There does not seem to be obvious blockages. If I push some filament through the bondtech, the gear can move. I can move the motor if I push on the gear with my pinky.
Suggestions on next steps? Is this an indication there's a problem with the stepper motor or something else?
RE: Extruder Motor not advancing
inside the stepper motor there are two coils, if one of these coils is open circuit the motor shaft will just wiggle.... (Same occurs if the stepper motor driver, is faulty but that's more of a problem. )
I suggest that you test the continuity with a multimeter and ensure the connector was plugged in properly.

RE: Extruder Motor not advancing
Is it possible the gear has loosened from the motor shaft?
When you can move the gear with your pinky, can you feel the ‘resistance’ of the motor steps? Or does the gear spin freely?
Check that the grub screws are tight to the shaft; tighten the first one on the flat of the shaft, then the second one.
Cheers
RE: Extruder Motor not advancing
Thanks for the tip, this led me down the correct path.
In the end the fix was simple. The connection was loose.
