Extruder encased in PLA

I set off a print and left it, only to come back an hour or so later with the print failing catastrophically, with melted PLA being forced up the side of the extruder, including around wires and I think a number of components.

I didn't take any photos of what it looked like, as I immediately started to remove as much of the plastic as I could, but here are some photos of what it looks like now: https://imgur.com/a/v0Nql97

I'm not as concerned with why this did this, but more about getting the printer print-ready again. I have no idea what to search, what might be broken, what might need replacing or anything like that. The printer is less than 3 months old, came assembled, and has not had any modifications made to it.

There is still a massive blob of plastic hanging from some wires (which are damaged, if not broken completely), the nozzle section looks twisted and out of place (maybe?), and there is still plastic is all the nooks and crannies.

How do I go about fixing this? What should I be looking for in terms of online resources? Are there professionals I can bring this to who'd do a better job fixing it than I would alone?

Blob of DOOM!!!

Hello Jack
the white wires are the extruder thermistor wires.
If you try turning the printer on, and heating the hot end, you will almost certainly get a Mintemp Error...  and the printer will refuse to heat the hot end!

Have you changed the nozzle recently?  or taken it off for cleaning?

when I get a Blob of doom, I use a temperature controlled soldering iron, to carve the waste off the left hand side of the heater block and heat the nozzle to remove the rest.

are you in the UK,  if so E3D online, are good for Thermistors
the Prusa Specific Thermistor is your best bet...  it comes with the correct plug fitted

this link takes you to the right area

If you are in the US, I hear Printed Solid, are good for these parts

otherwise here is a link for the e3D resellers around the world.

Here is a link to the Prusa Knowledge base article on blob management
