Downside to MK3S

I noticed that the MK3S has a new filament detection system, using a optical interrupt to indicate the presence of filament in the extruder. This new detection approach seems to only tell if filament is present, it doesn't seen to be able to tell if the filament is moving as anticipated. This means if there is a jam the printer will know there is filament present but won't know that the filament isn't moving and will continue printing.

I see this as a huge down side considering resuming a print after a jam will be much harder considering the printer will no longer know when the jam occurred and has been printing in the air for an un known amount of time.

I like that the new software will quiet the clicking of the heater for the bed but I don't want to upgrade my MK3 if it is going to remove its ability to not only detect the presence of the filament but the detection that the filament is still moving and the extruder isn't jammed. It would be nice if there were two sensors... on that confirmed the presence of filament and another that detects that it is flowing through the extruder properly. This double sensor should have the option to turn off the motion sensor for people that are using filament that the sensor can't see... but the printer should be able to be set to detect filament motion for filaments it can see.

If I upgrade to the latest firmware will I lose the ability to detect filament jams and not just filament runout? To be honest this is a big reason I wouldn't want the MK3S. I print functional parts, I don't care what color filament I have to use just as long as the printer can detect that the extruder isn't jammed and ruin a print I can't recover from.

Re: Downside to MK3S

You can just upgrade to FW 3.6.0 for your MK3. Not need for the upgrade to MK3S if you don't want this.
