Display goes blank - MK3+

Anyone experience the display suddenly going blank on some operations? (MK3+) For instance, I might select the "unload filament" and the display will just blank.. I can repower and it comes on.. or just wait and press switch later, and often it will return. Sounds like a loose connection, but I've wiggled both ends of the ribbon cable.. Before I tear apart, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and think it might be firmware related. Running v11, not the latest. Doesn't happen often.. I can run for days with it not happening.. and then it can happen 4 times in one day.

Try cleaning the contacts at both ends with a cotton bud and isopropyl alcohol.

Cheerio,

Another thing to look for is if the ribbon cable is run correctly, if they are harnessed improperly, to tight, twisted or folded they can experience electrical interference, causing blackout and in some cases screen gibberish. Sometimes this won't become evident until the machine is moved a certain way, or vibrations bring it on.

Thx.. might be ribbon cable twisted. I tried to run it inside extrusion channel and might have pinched it a bit.. I’ll also look at contacts, but think that unlikely.. I wiggled both ends and seems to be stable there.

I am getting this also. Only happened a few times in the first week after assembly, but now it's happening more often. Checked the cables a few times and no pinches or loose connections that I can see. Getting both blank and screen but more often gibberish.

Sometimes, it happens when I press a button, which makes me think that sometimes, at least, this is a firmware bug .. which is why I was posting  …. To see if others see this occasionally. Seems like some weird sequence of inputs will cause the display to blank.. It could be some weird interaction with the firmware handling the USB port (as I use OctoPrint) and other options selected via the front panel.

Mine seems to be very specific to the bed calibration test so I created a new thread for it: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/screen-prints-gibberish-during-the-bed-calibration-test-unclear-if-test-fails/

Sounds more like a hardware issue then firmware to me.  The button press might be causing flexing and causing something to ether make or break a contact that should not be happening.  If you haven't already, you could try disassembling the front panel and putting it back together.  Perhaps something wasn't installed quite right.
