Damaged steel plate on the second print?

Hi, i just made my second print after some Test patterns and I think the steel plate already got damaged.

It's hard to see on the pictures, but there are some little sprinkles around the corners of the printed model. It was the first model of this size, I haven't printed anything before at this place. It was just PLA with 60°C Heat Bed temperature, just like the test patterns before.

If I try to clean it, it feels like, the bed got uneven, like they are elevating the surface of the bed a little think. Getting a good picture was difficult, I  hope you can see, what I tried to describe. Have anybody encountered this before?

Best regards,

Jan

You sometimes see them around larger prints (ones that tend to warp) on new, smooth, build plates.  They usually resolve themselves as long as you're not repeating the same print.  If you have a series of prints to make it can pay to do the largest first and then progressively smaller.

Cheerio,

Nice to here, they usually resolve themselves.

You were right, it was a bigger base with a litle bit of warping in these corners. There was also two additional places with these sympoms on the edges without warping, but these were much less. So, let's see, how it evolves over time.

Thanks for your reply again 🙂

I second what @Diem says.

Also, sometimes you get marks on the smooth sheets that then show on the bottom of subsequent prints. They are self healing to some extent.

Personally, I prefer the textured sheet because I find them much more hardy but I mainly print PETG.

ATM we only have PLA at home. We ordered a second steel sheet right with the printer, but meybe this was a mistake. It should rather be an alternative sheet then the same one as replacement 😀

I'm glad to read, it should heal over time. So far, it didn't get worse.

The bubbles in the adhesive usually smooth themselves out over time.

A few months ago I 're-skinned' a damaged plate and although the bubbles were obvious right after I did it, they are barely visible now.

I've found that you can reduce the severity of the 'images' from prints being left on the plate (and subsequently being transferred to other prints) by using a release agent such as Layerneer.

The are already reducing 🙂
I guess Layerneer works somehow like glue sticks?

Layerneer performs some of the same functions as glue stick, but goes on much thinner and does not leave impressions on the bottom of the prints.

It performs as both an adhesion booster and a release agent.

It's a liquid, and a little goes a long way.

Another similar product which some of the folks here like is Magigoo.
