Configuration makes it impossible to load TPU

I have a Mk3S to which I added an MMU. To do this, I had to change the original ball-displacement filament sensor with the one which senses the filament when the feed gears are forced apart. This worked well as long as I used the MMU, but I took it out of service because it was jamming too frequently to be of any real use and went back to the Mk3 only configuration.

However, now (in the MK3 only), when I try to load filament, the filament feed will not begin until after the gears are forced apart by my manually removing the teflon feed tube and pressing the filament (hard) into the gears to force them apart. This can be done with a firm filament but is impossible with TPU. It is also a real pain in general...

It seems like the feed should be on after it asks you to load the new filament, but it is not.

Is there a setting for this or any way to avoid having to force the filament on?
