Colour change behaviour problem

Hi everyone,

I have a MK3s, current firmware, Prusa Slicer 2.0

I have been playing with 2 colour printing (swap at certain layer height) and have found a flaw in the process.

Once the first colour is complete, the printer bleeps at me, I unload and old colour and then load the new colour as instructed on the screen.

The print head is in the lower right, the new colour purges and the printer asks if the new colour is loaded correctly. I remove the mid-air stringy purge that it does, and then select "Yes" on the printer.

What happens next is that the printer starts extruding again, while it is in the lower right corner and then moves the print head back over the print and resumes printing. The problem is that the random extruding that it is doing in mid-air is then dragged over the print and makes a mess of the first layer of the second colour.

I've tried pulling off the random extrrusion with a pair of tweezers as the head is moving over to the print, but it is near impossible to catch it 100% before it ruins the print.

I've also tried leaving the purge alone and not removing it after the colour change, but that just makes the printhead drag the entire mess onto the print as I would have expected.

Is there a trick to doing this?

Thanks guys

Unfortunately that is, and has been the situation.

The trick is being quick on your toes(?) and having good timing.

I have my fingers ready and am steady and careful.

It is certainly a pita.

Don't remove the first purge from the change. Just hold it.

Then, when it does the extra dribble, it will still be attached to what you're holding on to. Just pull it away quick once it gets close to your print 🙂

Duh!! Why didn't I think of that?

vintagepc, thanks for a nice solution to getting that last bit of filament off easily.

RE: Colour change behaviour problem

Hi, I am using PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 and MK3s firmware v.3.9.0-3421 and the problem still exists.

Is it a firmware problem (M600 filament change) or G-code generation? I didn't make a tests yet but maybe some of you already tried how to solve it?
