colorprint : how to prevent extrusion before starting new color ?
Hi there,
I love colorprint... but every color change I need to fight with the extruder to remove filament that is extruded right after I confirm color successfully change.
Why this extrusion happen ? Is there any way to avoid it happen ?
Re: colorprint : how to prevent extrusion before starting new color ?
When I use ColorPrint, it extrudes a small pile of filament and then kicks the print fan on high for several seconds to harden it before it moves back to the print. So far, it has always broken clean without me touching it. I just pull the little cone of filament off the print bed before the next color change. Is yours not doing that? I don't remember it extruding anything after I click that the color change was ok?

It did, but extrusion continue during the move and, when you are printing really small pieces on 0.15, the small amount of filament that stick to the nozzle could crate some ugly bumps.

hi Pierre,
you may have removed the waste too early...
I know it is counter intuitive...
if you leave all of the waste attached to the extruder until the extruder moves back to the model,
the additional squirt of waste remains stuck to the waste pile and you don't have to chase it...

The problem is related to this issue M600 does unwanted extrude after 'is color clear?' confirmation on github.
The behavior is described as intentionally and is to build up pressure in the extruder when continue from color change.
I find it annoying too and it should no longer be necessary with LA enabled to control nozzle pressure.
I think it would be better to resume position before building up pressure - in case LA is enabled, this should happen automatically.
Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

😀 Yeahh, counter intuitive... but I'll try again.
Thank you Joan

Area51,
LA is really new and I think you ask a really good question... but I have no clue and I hope experts will answer it.
That would be a really good occasion to kill this additional extrusion
Re: colorprint : how to prevent extrusion before starting new color ?
I filed that issue on Github a while ago..
What I do nowadays is to hold on to the extruded filament (i.e. don't clean the nozzle after change), wait for the hotend to move the the position to continue, and just before it hits the printed part pull out the extruded string so the nozzle is clean.
Works fine so far, and better than to fiddle with a tweezer in between the hotend and the printed part.

I'm going to change my story here. I just used ColorPrint over the weekend. First time since updating to 3.2.1 and the latest drivers. I don't believe it behaves the same as I saw earlier. The print fan doesn't stay on as long before the print head moves back to resume printing. The little cone of extruded filament still broke clean without me touching it but I had a moment of panic when it didn't do what I was expecting. I was calmer on the second color change! lol
