Cannot feed filament due to Jam near gears

I think the image says most already....

  • I first followed the guide, heated, used accupuncture needle, but no clogging.
  • Then i opened the door to the gears and saw this.... its stuck, and cannot push it down when nozzle is heated.

I have only constructed the printer, printed about 2 kilos of filament over the last 8 months, that's it. I do not very often swap filaments, but that's where the problem started.... At my last print with orange3D white filament the print was very squeeky. Not while retracting but while printing. When i unloaded the filament and on the beep sign and had to pull i noticed that i felt a small 'snap' . That can now be explained i think when looking at the actual filament still being there in place.

As i have never disassembled the printer yet ... i am a bit nervous to f it up. What can you advise me to do here?

From what you said, maybe your filament got wet if you didn't store it properly over those 8 months.

If filament is stuck in the PTFE tube, you should be able to push it down with a 1.5mm allen wrench. Disable steppers in the menu, heat the hotend up to target temperature or a bit higher, and push the filament down the tube with the allen wrench.

And believe me, while the first time might be taunting, disassembling and reassembling the hotend is not a big deal. But it shouldn't be necessary here.

Thanks fuchsr! I took the courage to open up the extruder for the first time after mounting it all together and in the end it was super easy lemon squeezy. The images say it all, there was stuff blocking the PTFE tube; some black and some white.

With small tweezers i got the piece out easily, but i feared that the white blob on picture 2 would fall in. I decided it would be safe enough not to cover it while trying to remove, and got extremely lucky as it.... did indeed fall in but still got stuck at the top of the tube so i could remove it easily again with a needle.

After this is fully recallibrated the printer and it works like a charm again

I have had MK3 since the launch along with MMU2s and I am now getting that very frequently.  I don't know what has changed?  I cannot print MMU2s prints anymore because it happens so often.

Dryer...

Filament breaks because it is moist.  Perhaps not dripping water when you wring it out ... but it doesn't take much humidity to make filament brittle.  If you can bend the end of it back on itself and it snaps ... you should not print it.
