adhesion problems with powder coated sheet

Hello!

since a few Weeks ago I own a powder coated sheet. Until last weekend everything was fine, the adhesion was incredible.

But now I have the issue that beginning at the right front corner the adhesioson more and more gets lost. I cleaned it with IPA like recommended and the first layer is set properly, i tryed other filament brand too.

Maybe there is something on the sheet that I spread bigger while I am cleaning with IPA, because the area with no adhesion grows.

The curios thing is the other side of the sheet. There is no adhesion at all..?!

any suggestions? I'm a bit afraid of cleaning with aceton or water because it's not "allowed". but there must be a way to clean the sheet from things that are not dissolved by IPA

Filaments used:

for now only PLA from: das Filament, M4P, Basicfil, Prusa (I never had problems with any of them)

Cleaning with water is typically not a problem as far as you dry the steel sheet immediately afterwards.

 

So I would start by cleaning it with water and dishwashing soap. I would not use aceton.

 

An entirely different route would be using something to aid with adhesion. I personally like 3DLac but the majority on the forum would probably advise towards the warm water & dishwanging soap route.

 

The reason why you don't have any adhesion on the back side may be that you handled it with your hands previously?

Hot water and one drop of dishwashing soap worked at the end.

after cleaning with water and soap I wiped the sheet with warm clear water to remove any saop residue. Now I can print like  before 😊 

Hopefully this mothod does not harm the sheet over longer time periods..

So long as you immediately dry off and heat up the plate, it should be fine. You're only going to water wash very rarely. Most of the time an IPA wipe will be sufficient.

A "harmed," washed plate that is actually usable is far more benefit than a never washed, "unharmed" rendered useless by adhesion problems.

I find new plates have a post manufacturing film on  them that IPA just moves around instead of removing . a good soap and water wash and hot rinse leaves a wonderful surface to print on . just make sure you dry the sheet will after washing . I tend to do an IPA rinse after the water rinse to flush the remaining water from the surface. and wear gloves during the wash to avoid transferring skin oil to the sheet

I had a similar problem, I used IPA to clean off any oil from my fingers and then ran the first layer calibration, followed by the bed level correction, followed by another first layer calibration to ensure that the filament was filling in the grooves evenly across the build plate. Doing the bed level correction (I raised right side by 10 um) gave me better adhesion in the side that wasn't sticking as well.
