adding a 24 volt fan

think it would be safer to add a 24volt fan to one of the Rambo inputs from the power supply or open up the power supply and see if there is a good spot for it. I don't think this fane would take too much ampage, I would think it would be safe to add to Rambo. my poor extruder needs something to keep it cool with all the filament changes. I wonder how well the mmu is dealing with all the filament changes.

Re: adding a 24 volt fan

Hi Chris,

If you add the fan directly to the 24volt power rail, either at the einsy or power supply, the fan will run continuously, is this what you want?

you could consider running your fan in parallel with the say the extruder heater then it would only run when the heater is on...
which might be better.

Are you planning to use the CG Tech Motor cooling housing?
or something more crude?...

the cable bundle for the extruder goes from the enisy to the extruder so it would be easier to add the wire from the einsy than the powersupply, if your fan is going on the extruder assembly.

Re: adding a 24 volt fan

well lucky for me. I was able to round up a 12 volt wall adaptor and found a good size heatsink and fan. I can just plug it into the wall for its power. seems easier. im not even sure if the power supply has a 24 volt, or if it just jumps 2 12volts. BUTT im fine with going a smaller 12 volt fan for my testing. but I do think if I can add a time out after the M600 command, some of my issues while doing rapid filament changes might go away.

that seems to be the killer of my hot ends pressure at least. I might also cad a printed tube to take the air from the drive side of the extruder gears and use that for the air that cools the "radiator" ive only been 3d printing like a month and a half. so my lingo is low 😀

I like the idea of having the blower fan from print nozzle taking its air from the extruder. I cant see that temp messing with that too bad

Re: adding a 24 volt fan

Hi Chris,

recirculating the motor heat through the part cooling fan might create a problem elsewhere...

a couple of days ago, I saw a motor shroud with a 40mm fan mount on top... specifically for cooling the motor.

whilst I don't currently have problems with my extruder motor overheating my filament, I do recognise that the motor is hotter than I would prefer. so I printed one yesterday

file attached because I couldn't find the original source.

the horn on the part fan, isn't really needed, but it's my toy... so I added it coz I could! 😉

wow, that's close to what I was doing. you happen to have the duct work going to the hamster wheel blower fan? I have the rough cad file almost done (all hail subtractive Booleans) but I have no problem printing multiple ideas

Whistle, it's more like a foghorn!....

at the moment I can't find the horn, sorry

its ok, I gotta let it cool down anyhow. I think I got something. as Darth Vader would say " crude, but effective" I relay just have to stop printing multi martial. until the mmu comes out. but I guess this is good fun

I will print a rough pla draft see how close it is. in theory, it shouldn't get hot enough to melt. might get soft.

dagnabbit. just noticed while it was parked.. my idea wouldn't fit. o well. no swapping filaments for me unless that one motor shroud helps enough.

Re: adding a 24 volt fan

so I just found a fan that would fit on that motor cap you showed me. im still just running it off a wall wart. but so far results are promising. temp is at around 33c. I might have to try a 2 color print and see how well it handles changing filament once every layer again. I did have this crazy thing I was making just to cool the extruder gears. but it just wasn't practical. was fun engineering it.

at last my extruder motor isn't the same temp as my heat bed 😀

thanks again Joan, you rock. next on my list is the extra filament that comes out when changing colors 😀 that should be a pain,... 😀 is there a secret forum where the mmu testers talk?
