Z axis in slicer

Hello all,

I'm sure it's probably posted in here somewhere, but new to prusa I couldnt find it. Any help is appreciated in advance.

My first issue with slicer is there is no undo option?? I had to close down and restart when i made a mistake.

Also, I noticed the Z function to move an object works, until you let go of the button and it goes back. I even tried to manually put the number in and only the X and Y work.. a little frustrating for sure! Are there any good instructions for the software anywhere?

Eric

Try the 2.1.0 alpha - they've got undo working.

And, you can't print a part starting in mid-air, therefore slicer forces the part to the bed.  Since there must be a base part that is on the bed, you can add parts (objects) that connect to the primary part.  These objects can be placed anywhere - even in unprintable locations.

Thanks for the reply and yes!! Undo!!

And I get what your saying, so I had my base part loaded, went to add and it loaded, but still the same issue. I'm sorry for being such a noob but this gets frustrating for sure with something seemingly so simple!

You need to add as an object attached to the first part - it forms a group where parts can float relative to the other.

Load your primary - must be on the bed part; then select that part and use Editing Add Part ...

Thank you so MUCH!!!! That was huge! Now I'm trying to figure the whole multi color thing so the next hurdle!

Another thing that I've been concerned with. I just bought a new computer with the i7 6 core and the Nvidia P2000 video card. Supposedly a decent machine. When I designed in tinker cad all my spheres are coming out horrible in the slicer. Is this a hardware thing or a software issue do you know?

You tell me - it's your software ... lol.

You're probably not setting the geometry right in your cad tools.   Most reduce the vertices for easier computational requirements.

btw - never heard of an nVidia P2000.  Something new?  And no - your computer hardware is not the issue.  wait - just a Quadra.

When you say horrible, I presume you mean they are geometric polygons rather than a true sphere with curves.  This is a setting in the CAD tool you must find and decide how you want to deal with storing and rendering the part.

TinkerCAD is a bit limited ...

That's exactly it, I didn't see any ways to adjust that on tinker cad, I just down loaded fusion 360 so I will see. What do you use for software?

Nearly all my 'design' work is done in Meshmixer.    I've made ONE printed part in TinkerCAD - a cap plug for my sprinklers that Meshmixer refused to allow me to make an o-ring gap.   Fusion 360 is highly recommended.

Eric,

I started the same way with design software choices and ended up using Fusion 360 daily.  One of the best teachers I found was 'Lars Christensen' on YouTube.

Auto Desk has changed the interface since he started the videos but the basics and tools are the same.  Look for his Absolute Beginner series.

Best of luck in your adventures.

The Quadro is overkill for TinkerCad so it's definitely not the video card or computer.  I don't know TinkerCad but in the program I use I have to set the mesh parameters to achieve the best balance between size and quality.  Look to see if you can customize your export to stl setting somewhere and fiddle with the mesh settings.
