X axis problem and crash detected

So I have been trying this particular print and kept getting crash detected. Figured no big deal, re-calibrated/re-leveled the bed, tried it again. Same thing, figure its the geometry of the part, try a different part, again re-calibrated/re-leveled and tried the new part. Again, crash detected. I've tried re-calibration, re-leveling, first layer height, and now every time I run the first layer height, my X-axis decides to zero at home in the middle of the axis. Not really sure what to do at this point. Has anyone had this issue?

If it doesn't zero where it should, then there must be some kind of physical obstruction.

  • Does the extruder move freely on the X axis if you push it by hand?
  • Is the X belt undamaged and free of junk like stray bits of filament?
  • Is the belt tension consistent as you move the extruder, or does it tighten up in one direction?

@kpreid

The extruder moves freely, the tension is almost identical, just ever so slightly tighter on the top right side than the left as you look at the front face, and I couldn't find any filament or clutter on the belt. I know they say the lubricant isn't needed, but maybe I need to lube the rails?

Things I would want to check or try:

  • Try loosening the screws on the back of the carriage and re-tighten them so they are just snug. The LM8UU bearings can deform quite easily.
  • For testing , place a drop of light weight oil on the rods. sewing machine or 3-in-1. Not WD-40.

Do the above one at a time and test in-between

As for not lubricating bearings! Don't get me started!

Quality is the Journey, not the Destination. My limited prints->
