Yes, I would like to see a domestic (US) distributor of Prusa products and supplies.

Giving this a bump to see if it can happen.  Shipping costs to the US from the Czech Republic are pretty steep.

I don't think it was mentioned before, but you can get Prusa versions of the hotend components from Filastruder, FilamentOne, MatterHackers, and PrintedSolid in the US. Not sure how many other parts are Prusa-specific beyond those and the printed bits.

I got a genuine Prusa model E3D to keep as a spare from Amazon here in the States.

@jsw

FilamentOne and Filastruder are other good sources.

I offered to run one for them but they never got back to me.  The goal was to stage product here for quicker/cheaper shipping.

For full kits, you simply cannot beat the quality of the organization, kitting and packaging from Prusa.  I was shocked at the quality of the packaging I received.  It was premium organization and kitting.  If someone ever did full kits as a distributor they would need to meet that standard.

For parts, distributing Prusa approved parts would probably give people comfort knowing the parts are quality items that they back.

I would consider doing the same after I retire.

Would be cool to see a local distributer for spare parts, would even open the door to help produce older revisions of said parts for those with older printers. For standardized hardware it would be a good option too.

I just don't see it possible with full kit machines though. I feel that most of the 'backlog' we see from ordering from PRUSA is just the fact they don't keep an inventory of full kits around. They print on demand, allowing them to stay somewhat flexible in terms of upgrades and revisions to the printers. Sure, full kits could be built and sent around to distributers and if an update happens the updated parts could be sent free of charge to the customer/distributer. But that's a lot more logistics than just having everything under one roof.

I think part of Prusa's (the company) success is being able to keep a close eye over nearly every part of production. They may just be really hesitant to move production of parts outside of their facility where they won't be able to enforce the same level of QC.

I agree that kits wouldn't work out well.  Prusa as a company seems to be to be VERY concerned about quality and the juice from running a full print-farm to generate kits isn't worth the squeeze.

Parts that Prusa sources from outside vendors under license (ie the motors with branding and the printer plates etc) might be good to distribute from within various geographic regions.

BUT.....  they are doing OK now and probably aren't that motivated to change.  How many education or other sales are they losing due to not having a local company?

I have to agree with most of what is said.  I may start by printing replacement parts for US customers and re-evaluarte the demand.
