Why the i3MK3S+ raises the extruder height when loading or unloading filament? How to prevent filament from getting entangled?

Hi, once Loading or Unloading command is selected from the LCD screen, the extruder is raised automatically. What is the reason for doing that? During those time, often such action causes the filament in the roll to get entangled. Are there good ways to prevent this from happening?

This is in the firmware so I think you would have to adjust the firmware itself.  It is annoying to me also when it happens in my enclosure.

I am not brave enough to play with the firmware.

Is there some kind of physical stopper to prevent the filament from pushing up the roll and causes entanglement?

I would contact support and ask that question via Chat.  I could be wrong and there might be a G-code.  I just could not find it.  ‘

I would not try a physical blocker.  It will  cause you steppers to grind and might cause damage.

When you turn the printer on it can't know where the nozzle is because you might have moved ir manually while it was off. So to be safe it moved the hotend up a bit.

I must say I've never ever had a spool tangled because of that. If you're truly concerned you may want to consider a reverse Bowden setup

A simple filament guide attached below the spool may help to prevent or reduce ‘unspooling’ of the filament when this happens.

Lots of choices on the Printables site.

Cheers

In my case, the filament got pushed up and part of it got loosen up with other part of the filement in the roll. The track jumped to another and messed everything up.

After waiting for over 10 minutes for somebody to pick up the chat line, I asked the agent. It took him about 15 minutes to reply and asked me to clarify. After copying and pasting my original question, it took him another 10 minutes or so to reply saying that “There's no simple way to prevent it moving, you would likely have to modify the g-code.” I asked him another question, it has been over 15 minutes and he still keeps me waiting.

Any recommended reverse Bowden setup? Will it cause the steppers to grind?

I don't have any generalizable experience. I run one between a Mk3S and a Palette 3 but that's specific to that setup. There was a video by Tom Sanladerer a month ago that may have more information: https://www.google.com/amp/s/toms3d.org/2022/09/06/should-you-use-a-reverse-bowden/amp/

Yes, in fact there is: I just made one! Soon to be available on printables.com and to buy ready-made. I'll be sure to update this thread when it's out.
