Re: Who Has Pre-Ordered A Mk 3 Then?

I ordered one on the 25th once I heard about them from a different forum, not I am regretting my purchase. When I ordered, the website said “We expect to start shipping in November” So I whipped out the old Bank card and placed my order.

You cant take the expectation to ship in November literally. Expectation is based on suppliers providing them with necessary parts. These printers are hand made, hand packaged and hand tested. For that reason just because you pre-ordered doesn't mean you will get it on the first batch to ship. ie, if they are able to put together 100 printers a week and they have 10,000 orders and you are 7000 in queue, you would be waiting months for your order. Thats how it works. They arent out to screw anyone and people have waited 6 months to get an original Prusa. If you dont think the wait is worth it you can email them for a refund which they will gladly provide.

I ordered one on the 25th once I heard about them from a different forum, not I am regretting my purchase. When I ordered, the website said “We expect to start shipping in November” So I whipped out the old Bank card and placed my order. I spoke to a Live Operator Sunday who told me “Please come back in December for more details” (See chat log below) this just rubs me the wrong way and I feel like they lied to get my money now I am an un-person to them.
I have had no response to my emails as of yet, and all I get from chat support is an off handed dismissal “it might ship in Jan”
In addition, the website still says, “We expect to start shipping in November”
To that, I say November of which year.

**Start of Chat Log**

Michele15:45
We will start shipping the first few MK3 units by November, new preorder though may ship in January/February while related upgrades may be released in January or so
just guessing, as far the large scale distribution doesn't start I can't give accurate estimations

Me15:47
I am confused I order it said, "We Expect to start shipping in Nov" Order # XXXXXXX am I one of the first few or am I looking at next year?

Michele15:52
let me have one more look

Me15:52
Okay

Michele15:52
it is kind of a late order

Michele15:52
it may ship in January

Michele15:53
please come back in December for more details”

**End of Chat Log**

So you ordered on October 25th, one month after preorders started, and you're surprised you're not going to get yours until January? The "Ships in November" tag on the item has been there since the product was announced. It's not a dynamically created date based off of demand.

First off, we are going to have to agree to disagree.
If Prusa’s website said “shipping in Jan/Feb” we would not be having this discussion because I would have known going in to expect a long delay but Prusa’s website said “we expect to ship in Nov” something it still says.
If when I placed my order I got an email stating that “do to overwhelming demand” we expect to ship early next year again we would not be having this discussion.
“That’s how it works”
This is not true in the world I live in, if I go to McDonalds and order a #6 and pay for it, I expect my number to be called in under ten minutes and if after ten minutes it hasn’t been called I walk up to the counter and ask, if the guy in the paper-hat tells me “we are growing the Potatoes and it won’t be ready till next year that is how it works” I am going to go ballistic.
Prusa entered into an implied contract stating “JUST ANNOUNCED! PREORDER! We expect to start shipping in November!”
Something they are still doing by not updating the website and after reading other posts I am not the only one that feels mislead.

what he said ^ its very simple to edit the html to reflect realistic lead time even by hand every time your projected lead passes into another month. it doesnt need to be dynamically updating through software. would take someone less than 5 mins to update it to say February

"We expect to start shipping in November" simply implies they are hoping to start shipping units in November. It does not imply they are planning to ship all units in November. If you've ordered from them before you would know this but I can understand people reading it to their favor. Once the first batch of units start shipping they will post a Queue that will read something like this.

Ordered
Sept 28-31 - Estimated Ship Nov 23-31
Oct 1 - 7 - Estimated Ship Dec 1-7
Oct 8-14 - Estimated Ship Dec 8-14
...
...
...

If you ordered it in October (and I could be wrong, really depends on how many units they can get out) you'll probably looking at late December or even January before your line in the queue comes up. I'm not trying to be a downer, just relaying past experiences and based on what customer rep told you to help set expectations to avoid disappointed. I hope I'm wrong but if you really aren't happy with it, you can always request a refund, buy something else or wait until their shipments become more real time which based on past experiences will be probably be middle to end of next year depending on how many people are ordering through the coming months.

I don't know where is your problem? It's a pre-order. Everyone who buys it had to know that it can be 4 weeks 8 weeks or 20 weeks. So if you don't want to wait buy a mk2s 😜 that machine comes faster.

I think what most that have complaint are saying is it is monkeys work to update the html of the shopping page to indicate that it will not be november or december to recieve your order placed today. we are talking about a company that makes automation, presumably they can update an html whether by hand or by code. we wouldnt be here commiserating if we had been forewarned. the order history page also indicates the MMA shipping schedule and appear it has not been updated for at least 38 days, indicating at least 3 months that were slated to ship in october as still pending. I will wait for my machine, but I will not be happy that I was not told there was a wait before I clicked "take my money now"

Re: Who Has Pre-Ordered A Mk 3 Then?

All will have a view on this, I'm afraid that 'expect to ship' does set an expectation, I'm no lawyer but given that the money has already been taken it is not unreasonable to expect 'November' be complied with. To imply that 'expect to start shipping' somehow grants the right to start shipping as and when they feel like simply isn't acceptable, that is unless you don't take any money until you fulfill the contract, then it is reasonable.

Since I have paid in full in advance then my expectations change since I'm not a finance company providing interest free loans, I went into this with an expectation, that expectation is to receive something in late November early December, this isn't a startup where I am 'funding at risk', had it said 'we expect to start shipping in March 2018' I simply wouldn't have ordered on that basis, I ordered within 2 days of the announcement.

Regardless of the money issue it is not unreasonable to expect to be kept up to date when funds have already been taken, failure to communicate will result in speculation which can be harmful to any business since it is frequently incorrect and often re quoted as fact.

All will have a view on this

Not a view, based on past order experiences and what customer service is telling people....though with assumption that they have more orders in queue than they can produce per week.

There is no law, there's no scheming. Just people who can't wait, want it now and will complain if they don't get it now....and the lack of an improved system on their part to better elaborate shipping times to NEW customers.

No one forced you to order. Their not keeping your money and they aren't hiding the fact. If you chat up customer service right now, tell them you are planning to order today and when do you think you will get it. They will say probably January. If your not happy with your estimated ship date, simply get a refund. If you're not happy with them holding your money, get a refund.

No but it's not a large company able to produce 10 million units per month either, nor is it mass produced. If you want something like that, you're ordering the wrong printer. Try China. Again, if you don't like it, just request a refund. You can do it now or wait until they start shipping to find out where you are in queue and what the estimated shipping time for your printer is.

Agreed

Re: Who Has Pre-Ordered A Mk 3 Then?

I do not understand this guys logic. They do not need to update the site to say anything other than "We expect to start shipping in November", because they are still on track to start shipping in November. Just not YOUR order. The first orders that came in will ship in November. Do people not understand how a queue works? You do not jump to the front of the line. Expect your order to come a month+ from November, as you ordered it a month after it was announced. If they updated the site to say they start shipping January, it would be wrong.

And "we expect..." isn't a guarantee that they will ship in November. It means they hope they can ship in November.

Yes and: a forecast that one can count on can also only be published by the time shipping has actually started (or when PR is 100% sure when shipping can start).

So relax everybody. I am quite confident that at least one MK3 will leave PR in November 😀 and I am also quite sure that it will be more than one. And more and more will follow. I do not expect a delivery forecast until shipping has started.

Re: Who Has Pre-Ordered A Mk 3 Then?

Not entirely sure who that's aimed at christopher.y.

For one thing I ordered within 2 days of the release to pre order, I sure don't expect to jump any queue but lack if information leads to speculation, which is exactly where this topic is at now.

I'm pretty much behind Josef and what he is trying to achieve so I'm OK with things as they stand currently, I understand the needs for cash in a business, so I'm fine with the payment in advance too although if things drag on too long that view may change, I certainly won't put up with another MMU fiasco.

I personally am not expecting any communication yet, nor complaining, I was advised late November and was fine with that. When you take a customers money you acquire some obligations, the need to communicate is one of them, good communication costs nothing, bad communication can cost you a great deal.

I just asked their life-chat support and that gentleman stated that the kit versions of the mk-3 will start shipping late November, which means that this years christmas tree will be the nerdiest one this house has seen

Re: Who Has Pre-Ordered A Mk 3 Then?

A 16 page thread full of speculation and rumors costs them more than having someone update a few lines of html. Every potential customer that checks the forum first and sees this thread which is constantly at top of mk3 forum that does not purchase because if uncertainty is hundreds of dollars lost in profit. they need to have someone as a community manager and take care of issues like this. just because some old people "walked to school uphill in the snow both ways" in the past does not mean that it was necessary or a good idea, and it certainly is no badge of honor.

Weird. Some people stated this even before Prusa posted it; I wonder what kind of complex algorithm they used to figure it out.
Anyways, Prusa is listening! This clears up any confusion, great company.

Well, this reassures me a bit. The complete silence from Prusa on mk3 production was making me nervous that things were slipping. (I have no history with new Prusa products, but pessimism on schedule is usually justified for new high tech bleeding edge products).

The fact that "new orders are January" gives me some hope that my order (mid-day Saturday on announcement weekend) will be early December!

A few tweets with "No promises, but things are progressing as expected..." would make me a happier buyer as I wait, and I don't see much downside to Prusa being open about current status.
