Mine looked somewhat similar, but worse (had to remove the X motors, too) back when I had to replace all my bearings due to premature wear (yes, I packed the new Misumi bearings per their instructions, and oh what a difference a gram of grease makes).

ps: that table is probably worth two new printers. Want to sell it? 😯 SVG is hard to find these days.

One of the things I'm doing is removing the Drylin bearings and going back to linear ball. The Drylin's are much quieter but there's just a bit too much slop. The prints weren't bad but it bothers me.

As an unwanted bonus I just (literally just a few min ago) realized the upper X rail is scored! This had to have happened when the printer was new since I've had the Drylin's on there for probably the last six months or so (took delivery in July of '18). I do seem to remember one of the bearings didn't feel quite right when it was originally assembled even though I did grease them up. Wish I knew about this then: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1128781 . I used a bamboo skewer and tried to work the grease in. Right now the plan may be to move the scored rail to the bottom of the X axis and use one Drylin there to get the thing running while I contemplate Misumi rods and bearings. A serious bummer.

ps. I built the bench about six or seven years ago and love it, so it's not for sale 🙂 Did you mean SYP (southern yellow pine)? Not sure what SVG is other than scalable vector graphic (auto correct strike again?).

Mine looked like that recently when I applied the MK3s mod. I had a small collection of other mods to apply at the same time (rigid feet, cable clamp, bearing holders, front y-axis belt tensioner). I also took the opportunity to clean and grease my stock bearings. I also printed a couple maintenance stands to hold it upside down while attaching the feet and cable clamp. I was thinking of also applying one of the non-zip-tie y-axis retainers, but forgot to choose one and print it out before my tear down.

I lucked out. Except for some worryingly dark residue on the bottom X-axis rail, I didn't spot any scoring on any of the rails. Granted, I only had the printer for about 3 months by then. I found a slightly different grease nozzle on thingiverse. It is similar but has a screw-on cap as part of the print. So I can just keep the nozzle on and cap it off for storage. SVG == Straight Vertical Grain : generally found only in the core wood of large conifer trees; these days most US and Canadian wood of this type and high quality is exported to Japan and never sees the local shelves.

Re: When's the last time your printer looked like this?

Mine did look like that for the last couple of weeks as I broke a heater cartridge leg doing the MK3S mods and had to wait for the replacement to come from Prague.

I now have a MK3S with MMU2S and all the latest revision of parts printed in the gorgeous Herz Metallic Blue PETG. And (finally) the powder coated PEI sheet arrived on Friday to finish it off.

The MMU2S will do dual colour prints fine, but it still struggles with 3-5 colour prints. 🙁 I'll get it working properly eventually.

Next task is to fit a switch on the power line for the MMU so I can disable the thing unless I need it. I'll add it to the little box I use for the LED light switch.

Ahh, didn't think of that. The top is laminated and all the pieces were cut and milled from 2x12's as the outside of these is almost always quarter sawn, or real close. it took a bit of pilfering through the stacks and a TON of work but it was fun and worth it.

You said you have Misumi bearings, did you go for the matching rods too and are they worth the cost? I've heard nothing negative about them.

That color IS sweet! Where'd you get it if you don't mind me asking?

Early on I bought, from Prusa, a backup heater cartridge and thermistor as they seem to be common points of failure. Fortunately the few times I've had to mess with them they held up fine so the backups are still just that, at least for now. We'll see once I tear the hotend apart this time.

Unfortunately I didn't make any progress at all today as other things came up and i'm leaving town early next week so it may be sitting for a while.

My 6-row LMK Misumi bearings on stock rods are nearing the point where my stock bearings were when I replaced them. Lots of wiggle in the Y-Axis, and going downhill fast. I will be replacing the bearings again, this time also replacing the rods with the hope things last a bit longer. I will also be taking a very close look at rod spacing to ensure I don't have some twist or other alignment problem. 3 months seems like a short bearing lifespan. X-Axis appears to be holding up better, 4-row LMU Misumi bearings on stock rods.

Is it worth the money to buy Misumi over stock? Yes: shipping from Europe makes going stock OEM expensive for me.

ps: @Frio: for that subsequent "Go PENS" ...

Got it and really appreciate the feedback. Now the important stuff... GO PENS!
