Trouble with Prusament PLA Vanilla White

Hi,

this is my first post here as a 3D printing rookie. I already printed several things, both self-designed and from thingieverse, with different types of Filament (PLA, ABS, all from Prusa). Everything went pretty well, until I tried the "Prusament PLA Vanilla White". With this, I had:

- prints that didn't stick to the platter
- prints that didn't cool in time and collapsed under their weight (ok, that was some long needle-like shape. But with silver prusa filament, it worked)
- Two times in a row a clogged nozzle. Removing and reloading the filament worked

I used the prusa-pla preset in prusa slicer. What go be wrong here?

Thanks for your help!

Markus

At first I had lotsa trouble getting things to stick. Learned to clean the plate, dry it off and start over and it works.

Never had a nozzle clog.

With other filaments, I have no trouble at all. Even ABS sticks fine. Just this white stuff makes trouble...

@markus-grunwald

Check your z and clean your plate.  Those are the number 1 and 2 causes of poor adhesion.

Ok.

Any hints about the clogging?

Did yours come with a bag of silica? Both spools of PLA Vanilla White did not come with a bag of silica. Whenever we use them, the printer clogs like crazy. Prusa does not want to take any responsibility nor compensate for their mistake.

Clean bed with dish soap, this removes all dirt, alcohol does not  remove all dirt.

Also first layer needs to be very good.

Both settings are for sticking to the bed.

If you change filament , example abs to pla, you need to use dish soap to clean very good, if you print different filament it will react on each other.

True, just to add: Make sure you rinse it well.  lingering soap will also cause poor adesion

Thanks for all your answers about the non-sticking. As I said, sticking is no problem with other filament, but with extremely good cleaning, I got that fixed, too. Still, I think there is some problem with the vanilla white PLA. It's mentioned now and then in this forum, even in this thread.

As to the clogging: this seems to be a major problem with the prusa heatbreak:

https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/prusa-edition-heat-break-easily-jam-clog-with-pla/

I've changed the hotend and am running a test right now. Keeping fingers crossed...

Vanilla White seems to clog even more than other filament, though.

@peter-c20

Yes, my filament came with a bag of silica. I hope that my clogging problems could be fixed with the new hotend (see link in my last post)

RE: Trouble with Prusament PLA Vanilla White

Hi all.

I have printed with many, many types of filaments. The Prusament Vanilla White is horrible. It is the single filament I simply can't print with.
Even if I raise nozzle temperature to 250°C, it takes a couple of minutes to get the nozzle clogged. Everytime again.

This happend right from the start, when I took it from a sealed bag.
So many times I decided to retry, I load the filament ... and fex minutes later you can hear the printer starts making clicking sound, no able to push the filament through the nozzle. Raising temperature helps ... For maximum a few minutes, and then you get clogging at a higher temperature.

Sorry for the late reply.

My advise, throw the prusament Vanilla away.

Diederik
