Textured Sheet Setup Problems

I decided to get some PETG filament for a couple of projects, so I went to setup HW Textur1 sheet.  When it does it's calibration program, it does not stick to the sheet, (and have cleaned with IPA, dish soap, and even sprayed a light coat of hair spray on it, and nothing seems to work. I have used the 230/85 settings, and even bumped them up to 240/90, and still nothing.  The other problem is when the calibration print starts, it shows my Z setting is +0.000.  I can counter clockwise to lower the nozzle, but cannot raise it any higher than what it starts printing at, not even sure at this point which way to go, because the line is pretty thin.

Live-Z is high

That pic looks like your Live-Z is very high (not negative enough). Remember the textured sheet is much thinner than the smooth PEI sheet, so you'll need to bring Live-Z down (make it more negative) by a substantial amount for the filament to "grab" and hold.

I can try, actually did go down to -0.020 and didn't seem to change. Just afraid of gouging the sheet or getting to close to block off nozzle and create a plug in tube

Keep on going down, as long as the filament don't grab you are too high.
Do you have a PEI sheet and printing PLA? Your Z-height will be 0,25-0,45 lower (more negative) than PEI sheet

I do , and have good luck with PLA, but this is with the Textured sheet and using PETG.  I am trying to setup the textured in the HW sheet setup.

I can move z axis manually and run it down to +0.000 and slide a piece of paper under the nozzle, like you would other printers, and it is snug but doable to slide a piecle of paper under

Best to start with Live-Z high (0 or positive) and work down (more negative) until you're used to it

I would suggest using Jeff Jordan's "Life Adjust" method with the 75x75mm square so you've got time to make adjustments. You're always better off starting high. When Live-Z is too high, you'll see the filament going down and curling up or barely adhering. Keep going down (make Live-Z more negative) in 0.04-0.06mm increments until you notice the filament starting to stick. Go in lower increments until you visually see the extrusions flatten out a bit. When you're close, the lines won't budge if you give a gentle poke with the finger. Continue lowering until the gaps between lines and along the edges close up.

Not sure about this. Went down to -080 and had filament squished around nozzle. Jeff Jordan's gcode is the one I have been using.

Yes, and what Z-height do you have when you print PLA on your PEI sheet? <---Question!!

As said in earlier post the textured sheet is thinner, for me about 0,35mm thinner.
So you need to go lower than your PLA/PEI z-height with PETG/Textured.

If you go with Jeff's 75x75 squares you have plenty of time to adjust your Z-height.
And extruder will struggle extruding before the nozzle touch the bed.
Don't bother ask me how I know, because all I will tell you is that it happened to a friend of  mine

I have printed PETG, buy after I first got it, and must have used the regular PEI sheet.  Piece of paper that I have here from that time shows Z height PLA -530, and PETG -525

Could not get PETG to stick to sheet, or adjusted. Keeps getting goo all over nozzle and nothing adheres to bed other than priming line. Thought that I would go back and try it with the PEI sheet without changing anything for smooth sheet other than temps, and this is the picture of the 75 x75 calibration

And what settings do you have now with PETH/Textur1?
You have to go down at least 0.3mm, to -0,8mm

Btw, If you print PETG on PEI without release agent you may damaged your sheet 😣 
https://help.prusa3d.com/en/materials is a good place for info about material and sheet.
But, as always, you may get different answer if you ask in the forum

The textured sheet has not one but two 'right' heights, use the lower one

I had the same problem until I realized that the printer should print in between the grain rather than on top of it. When you lower the nozzle during first layer calibration you start with filament extruding in air, then it extrudes straight on top of the grain. This is the confusing point, keep going down! The filament then touches the surface of the sheet and jumps back up, and it jumps higher the lower your extruder goes. Keep going down. At some point the filament is physically pushed into the grain and stops jumping up. This is the hight your extruder needs to be at. It seems too low because your eye looks at the top of the grain, but in fact it's the perfect height for extruding in between the grain.

PETG

PETG is tough to print once you bet used to PLA.  PETG is more sensitive to being squeezed between the nozzle and plate so over or under squeezing will lead to adhesion problems more than with PLA.  Your really need to nail the Z offset.

Back when I was having trouble with PLA sticking to the PEI sheet, I was told by someone to lightly rough up the surface of the PEI sheet with a Scotchbrite pad, I did it and have never had a problem again. I wonder if I did this with the textured sheet, if it would solve the problem with sticking. Funny that it sticks at the priming area but not on the printing area of the sheet.

The prime line push out much more filament to a much thicker line, that's why it sticks!

When you print PLA/PEI you have -0,530 
And, as said before, the textured sheet is thinner, about 0,3mm thinner!
That means you have to go lower, about 0,3mm lower, -(minus) 0,530 -(minus) 0,3 is -0,830! and you are at -0,080 to -0,120

And NO, no scotchbrite on your brand new textured sheet. That is your last option!!!

Powder coated sheet and pei sheet, if it does not work you need to do 2 things:

1. Clean bed with dish soap, use  a lot of hot water(do a few times).

2. First layer is not good, to high or to low will not work.

And there is no need for Scotchbrite pad, you need to adjust your settings, or could be the filament, use a different roll.

 

Check youtube for examples how the first layer looks like, it needs to be 100%.

First layer test, print a few cubes spread over the bed, start to high, and lower it a little by a little, then you find the good setting.

Wen you start a print(every print), look at the first layer, and take a look at the first layer en it is ready, if it looks OK, then you know if you need to adjust, and if your print fails it is normally now it happens.

 

And do not be afraid to go lower , it is normal that new users do not go lower bur sometimes it is needed.

Forgot something, after cleaning with dish soap, you can clean with alcohol, but use a lot of alcohol.

If a lot of  sticking is needed, only clean with dish soap.

After cleaning with dish soap, always use the sheet on a hot bed, the sheets can get corrosion.
