Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

Just follow the thread on github. PR is not denying something, they are working on it with the community.
I have MK2S and MK3. I can tell, even with 3.1.3 firmware the MK3 produce better quality prints overall in my case. Yes, there are things to improve on MK3 but some people are going crazy telling MK2S is a best thing ever and MK3 is a crap. It's definitely not!

Real progress has been made. The printer was definitely released before it should have been, but thats behind us now.

RC2, e-correct at 1.05 and the new slic3r have made huge huge improvements for me. Angus touched on the extrusion issue in his review (that finally came out) and he's the only reviewer I've seen mention it. Also some good constructive criticism that they'll hopefully take into account for the next revision.

Just came here to say. I upgrade to the rc2 and used the new beta slic3r and my prints are significantly worse.

I just saw the official release and wanted to try it. 😯

Did you do a factory reset and complete recalibration?

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

Hi to all,

I have read the whole thread here and also the longer and very interesting discussion (more than 600 post) on: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/602 about the serious problem of extrusion that afflicts the MK3 printer.

I have some other 3D printers and in the past I had to deal with various extrusion issues here and there, but nothing that was totally inadjustable or at least unidentifiable as it seems at the time this problem of the MK3. I understand that sometimes solving a problem could be a difficult process but after so many months waiting without a solution I begin to be concerned about the situation. Is it so hard to solve the problem? it's impossible? what's going on?

The more I read, the more it seems that everything can be the problem, and this is not good. It seems to me that this is an unfinished product yet in a beta test phase, Prusa Research only recently admitted that there is an unknown extrusion problem but six months have passed since launch and people started to complain about the problem much earlier than now...

I was considering buying this MK3 printer for some innovations that it has, however, on paper it looks very good but at the moment, actually, it's impossible to make any objective consideration when other printers costing a third of the cost of the MK3 are currently able to produce better quality prints.
I really hope that the situation can change in the near future.

Agreed, the number one thing for most people when it comes to a printer is quality, everything else comes after quality, personally I would sacrifice all innovations and sensors and speed increases for quality . . . and like you say at the moment you can get better quality prints out of the much cheaper CR10 or AnyCubic machine . . . so this is a real issue, at the moment I'm genuinely thinking why am I spending $1,000 for a Prusa ?

I think Prusa really need to get on this issue, we've heard very little from them about it, yet many many sources are reporting the issue, this is - over time - a real reputation killer, if it's not sorted out I can imagine people migrating en-masse from Prusa to other brands, who wants to pay 2 or 3 times the price of competing products for a machine that produces lesser quality prints ?

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

This problem with the MK3 is really taking the shine off Prusa products for me.

My MK2S and MK2SMM both produced beautiful prints. I recently sold both of them when I moved country (Aus to UK) and ordered one MK3 to replace them. The quality of the parts from the MK3 are a bit embarrassing TBH.

+ves
I love the magnetic heatbed
and quietness.

-ves
I've had a few print failures recently so I'm not rating it highly for reliability at the moment either.
Even with expensive filament and 50% speed I printed a benchy yesterday that wouldn't look out of place from a $200 machine!!!

Tom Sanladerer's prints in the MK3 review looked beautiful, so it obviously doesn't affect all MK3s.

Clearly just like the MM then, because if you were to believe what's written in the MM forum it was either released far too early, or just a flat out bad design 😉

I had the same thought. If you read this forum, you will get an impression MK2SMM works only for couple people and the majority just through it away because it's not usable. Now we have the same story with MK3 and I'm still waiting for MM 2.0 😀

Yeah. I have two Mk2/S printers, both with MMU and both are working very well. I also have a Mk3 and no matter what I do, I cannot get inconsistent extrusion. Just about the only thing I haven't yet tried is slicing with Slic3r, S3D or Cura!

A bad slice can exacerbate extrusion issues, but is not causing this issue. You can hand-write a simple box gcode and it will have the same artifacts.

Has anyone (who speaks German) tried contacting one of Trinamic's FAEs? I'm sure they would have all kinds of great troubleshooting ideas.

OK, but what's with PR reducing the extrusion to 95% within firmware? And does this persist between prints (without a printer reset)?

I am pretty certain that PR have been speaking directly with the boffins at Trinamic and are pretty much aware of some of the issues these drivers can have.

I have spent a few days trying to replicate these issues without any success. Does LA have any bearing on the problem? Could it be simply an under-powered MPU having too much to do working out LA and extrusion multiplier and going on catch-up every so often?

Peter

EDIT: I don't use either LA or firmware flow tweaks.

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

PJR - Some colors it's VERY hard to see the effect. You need a very "solid" color. Prusa Silver is the best filament I know of to make this visible.

I have found that have a light to your "right". And hold it sold that Z axis is pointing straight at the light, and when the light starts to "shadow" the layers, you look along X or Y axis.

I've been playing with acceleration and jerk settings attempting to see if making movements more "smooth", would help. It made zero difference. I personally think the issue is either Z axis, or the extruder... ... ... ...

I just made a revelation... I'll post again, as I need explain this better, and attach a video.

I *REALLY* wish I owned a dial gauge...

EDIT: Nope. Not gonna be it. The part is not upgraded/touched between mk2s and mk2.5.

Hi, I'm Sean. I used to work on CNC machines.
I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.
Please feel free to donate to my filament/maintance fund.

Yeah, I have PR white, Silver and Blue for testing and I have read all the posts on GitHub about the problem and seen all the pictures. Still nothing.

You REALLY need to post a picture of any of your prints with the lighting we suggested... if you don't have the extrusion problem, I dare say you are the only one in the galaxy that does not have the issue.

Now as suggested by PR staff ( https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/602#issuecomment-386248619 )
"We need your slic3r/s3d/cura profile, your STL, your factory file, whatever it takes to replicate your print as precisely as possible."

...and of course photos of the now "famous" cube, for example, so that all the other people with the issue can replicate and check their result with your.

PR have already printed my G-code files...

And as I mentioned, I don't use Slic3r, S3D or Cura.

And you have yet to post a picture of your "perfect" prints. Sorry- but I don't believe it.

Maybe I was not clear, obviously I mean, as PR has suggested, "whatever it takes to replicate your print as precisely as possible" for ALL the people that are working at the moment on the extrusion problem on this forum or better on the github thread, and therefore you can post, for example, your test g-code file and other useful info about your setup...and a picture of the result of course, so that the others can compare their results.

This is what PR have requested on the github thread, as a good practice, for all the people who complain about the problem, I think the same indication can also be valuable for those who do not manifest the problem.
