Soundproof enclosure

Hi All,

I've ordered a MK3s, I'd like to run it in my living room. This will definitely get me in trouble with the missus. So i started designing a soundproof enclosure. Having a enormous amount of insulating capacity this will probably build up a lot of heat inside. I've seen a few enclosures on here. But not ones that will reduce the printing sound to zero I think.

I could add a fan and a thermostat to cool the enclosure when it gets to hot. But this will kind defeats the purpose of it being closed off and silent.

Has anyone made something similar? What is a comfortable temperature for the MK3s?

RE: Soundproof enclosure

In the summer it will get very hot.

PLA will have problems with this. PLA needs door to be opens all the way.(airco could help in de summer).

Printer is made to print without enclosure.

You could build something, to blow hot air to the outside of your building! If this is possible.

Like Peter said, you're going to need to vent some of that air. Not only will the filament not like it, but the printer itself won't like it (especially the PSU). I suggest making your soundproof enclosure as insulated as possible, but include a fresh air inlet and a fan with and exhaust hose that you can pump out a window (why not get rid of the smell while you're at it?). You might consider having the air inlet pull air across the PSU like the 3D Upfitters enclosures do to ensure it doesn't overheat.

I could just place the PSU on the outside. I'm reconsidering building it at all though. I'm afraid that if I'll make a vent, it still might be noisy.
