Definitely a MMU2-style filament sensor for the extruder now. Not sure what else is different.

It doesn't look like too much is different with the exception of the ir filament sensor and metal ball. Perhaps the "S" stands for Sensor? If so, that's a pass for me.

I would be thrilled if the filament sensor *worked*. It's such a hassle with the MMU2.

Also interested in what upgrade options will be, if any... given my own Mk3 has the 1-month anniversary of its first print today. I'd have waited too had I known.

Someone elsewhere noted there was going to be a news update on the blog this week regarding powder-coated sheets, so that'll probably include this as well. So we won't have to wait long.

It's also only shipping with one Bondtech gear now. Probably related to the steel ball and new sensor

Do you now the bad part is. That prusa is saying nothing. I own 3 printers of them and this is the seccond time that a reddit user giving us the news. And not prusa. Dont get me wrong what i am reading is that the redit user orderd a MK3 and gets a MK3S. But for existing prusa MK3 users we are stil in the dark what the MK3S is and whats is changed.

Prusa please step up and tel us what is been changed.

Sorry for this post. but i think its not me that whant to now that is been changed. So we already ownd Prusa printers can upgrade to.

Here's hoping that people who bought in february get some sort of expedited upgrade path, we already had the choice of the fancy new coated steel sheet removed.

There is a difference if you open your mind. I ordered an MK3 and received an MK3 (just 12 days ago). Many others ordered MK3 just a few days after me and got MK3S.

Ofcourse when a new iPhone is released, it is first announced and then you go in line and get yourself the new one. But would you be happy to know that people buying the last gen from Apple website are receiving the newer generation without even knowing that and prior to the announcement? How am I any different than the people who ordered MK3 a few days after me?

This is a wrong way of releasing a new product.

that argument could be made indefinitely and you need to set a cutoff date or you will never get it done.
How they handle it is exactly the right way to do it as long as the official announcement comes out soon now.
There have been quite a few companies that handled this a different way by announcing their new product before it actually comes out, this usually results in instant cancelation of existing orders as well as everyone waiting for the new thing.

This completely destroys cash flow and bankrupted many companies just because of their own announcement.

Prusa at least usually offers and upgrade path for the previous model which is already more than they really need to do.

I'm confused sir, you said they are handling it the right way but why do I not see this strategy popularly used by other companies? Nope, you may be born a couple of decades ago but business has been around for centuries. Again I refer to smartphone manufacturers as an example; they manufacture and store the new product (ofc, quantity depends on the demand, estimated by the marketing team) > announce it > ship it right away or very soon. Shipping an unannounced product to lucky customers is stupid.

Edit: Oh and FYI, those who "cancel" their orders are not going to be vanished in thin air. They cancel because they want the new model and they would even pay more for it. The manufacturer is not losing money and speaking of money, Prusa has been operating as a private bank since 2016. Why is it fair for Prusa to charge us upfront for the products they cannot ship for months but its not fair for us as customers to cancel orders and wait for the newer ones?

I’m really hoping we are given an upgrade path. This upgrade looks like it will be mandatory for anyone with an mmu2 to fix how unreliable it is. So for any of us already with an mmu2 we will need to try to snag a mk3s/mmu2s upgrade. I love having to buy an upgraded version of something I just received two months ago after nearly 8 months of waiting to receive it. Knowing Prusa’s history with upgrade kit backordering I won’t see an upgrade for 6-9 months. I suppose my mmu2 can work as a spool joiner until then.
