Slic3rPE-1.42.0-beta2+win64 can't place part off center?
When I try to move a part off center in the plater view, the slicer view still shows the part at the center. After some investigation, I discovered the culprit was the 'auto-center parts' setting in preferences. UNchecking this allowed the part to be sliced off-center. This is a bug; The plater view and the slicer view should never be different in terms of print bed location. If the 'auto-center' preference is intended to apply all the time, then the user shouldn't be able to move parts away from the center - they should just snap back to the original location. If the setting is intended to operate only when the part is first loaded into Slic3rPE, then the moving the part on the plater view should also move it in the slicer view.
The reason I was trying to move the part away from the center is because I'm seeing 'BED THERMAL RUNAWAY' errors printing a small part with ABS; the Knowledge Base recommendation for this was to move small parts away from center.

Have you checked to see if this bug still shows in PrusaSlicer? That is the replacement for Slic3r PE 1.42.0 beta series, so if the bug still existed I wouldn't expect it to be resolved in Slic3r PE, ever.
(Really PrusaSlicer is a rebranding for the Slic3r PE fork...)

sembazuru,
Hi,
RE: Slic3rPE-1.42.0-beta2+win64 can't place part off center?
SlicerPE is Plicer ... just an earlier beta version. Same code, different name. Sv1.42.0 Alpha, Beta, then Plicer 2.0.

Funny how after writing something that seems simple, it can look confusing.
I may not have every detail here spot on, but generally this is the history.
Slic3r PE at version 1.41 was written mostly in the PERL compiler language PERL - a fork off the original Slic3r project.
https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r
Until v1.41.2, Slic3r PE was that same code, with modification and updates specific to Prusa printers.
Prusa decided to rewrite Slic3r PE in a more current language and they began by rewriting the UI to take advantage of better development tools - and did significant work on revamping the UI to be more user friendly. They chose to release the first alpha test as version number 1.42.0 - alpha 1 ... that proceeded until the new code was stable enough they released 1.42.0 - beta 1 ... and last 1.42.0 - release candidate, which they versioned 2.0.0 - RC. After a bit of final testing, they renamed the tool to Prusa Slicer and released v2.0.0 and began shipping printers with the new code.

If you are using an alpha or beta copy, you should upgrade to the released version to get the most recent and stable code.

tim-m30,
Thanks for the history lesson - very interesting! I was completely fooled by the version number sequence; A major GUI/Language change from 1.41 to 1.42 followed by a minor one from 1.42 to 2.0 - who knew? ;-).
I'll upgrade and see what happens with 'Plicer' (neat Portmanteau by the way).
