Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.42.0-beta1

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but...
I'm really starting to like the Slic3rPE beta but I want to know if someone can point me
to some info regarding adding a 2nd Printer without blowing away the Prusa Mk3S.
I know I can use the norm Slic3r program for my other printers but can a second Non-Prusa be added
yet maintain the Prusa MK3S?

I think all you have to do is either modify and save out with a new name one of the existing printer profiles for your printer, or re-run the configuration wizard to start the new printer profile. When slicing for a print, select the printer profile that you intend on printing on.

There is a bug in the software, where these icons need to be stored in a directory without any Unicode characters. Please move your Slic3r installation into a directory without any umlauts and similar characters, it shall work.

This bug will be fixed in the next beta.

Second is the estimated printing time function. It appears to only estimate print time based upon a "-normal" profile. I'm not sure what normal profile settings, and I can't understand why it wouldn't somewhat accurately recalculate the estimate based upon time altering setting changes. The time seems to change a little, but not nearly enough for the setting changes applied. What is the point of it if you can't see how certain setting changes affect print time? Again, what am I missing? I don't understand why they would even waste the screen real estate if the estimate has no basis in the settings used for the print.

What I've seen is two time quotes. See here:
2019-04-03 22_45_57-Slic3rPE-1.42.0-beta1+win64-full-201903231838.png

The normal and silent modes relate to the normal and silent print modes of the MK3(s). I can only guess (I only have a MK3S) that if you use a printer setup other than one of the two MK3 printers it doesn't show the silent mode. I haven't actually tested to see how accurate the time estimate is though...

Ahhh... That enlightening.

I thought the "-normal" meant the profile, not the printer mode. That now makes perfect sense. I'm still not convinced the time estimate accurately reflects the setting changes I'm making but now that I understand what it's trying to do I can test and see what happens.

Thank you for setting me straight.

@christopher.e8
Thanks Man, your info helped me figure it out.
I had to save the MK3S profile under a difference name, in my case "My MK3S"
Then did the config wizard for the other non-prusa printer and it all worked out.
Thanks

OK thanks!
Moved the installation and now it works 🙂

One thing I do miss from previous releases is the test suite. It seems it was tossed out along with the rest of the Perl code.

I do some packaging work for a Linux distribution (Fedora) and we find such things invaluable for helping to make sure that things haven't been broken by other software changes.

I've noticed that I get the same thing on my high DPI laptop (my main workstation), but my low (standard?) DPI laptop (off-lease purchase from work parked next to my printer) shows those features fine.

The test suite is still there. You need to run the cmake with the -DSLIC3R_PERL_XS=on parameter to get the perl bindings compiled.
