Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3
I just got my MK3S built and tested a few prints from the sd card, and they printed fine. I'm now trying to use Simplify3D to print, and having no luck. The issue is when i print, the bed heats up, but my extruder never does.
I had an old Flashforge printer i used with it before, and it worked great. I cleared my settings in Simplify3d (Help/Reset all Settings), then chose the Prusa Research Original Prusa i3 MK3. I have tried using the stock profiles from Simplify3d, as well as several profiles from this thread. One profile I downloaded the extruder would heat up, but not at the temp that it was set to, and then the bed wasn't heating. Seems like others are having success with this, is there something different with the MK3S, are others printing using Simplify3D with that printer? I'm baffled at this point, can't seem to find any rhyme or reason to why this won't work.
Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3
I got the MK3S to work with simplify 3d, by adding these lines to my starting script:
M140 S[bed0_temperature] ; this will take the layer 1 temperature for bed 0
M104 S[extruder0_temperature] T0 ; this will take the layer 1 temperature for extruder 0
M190 S[bed0_temperature] ; wait for bed temp
M109 S[extruder0_temperature] ; wait for extruder temperature
After that both the bed and extruder heat up. Since this doesn't work without those script additions, I assume simplify3d needs to tweak something. But for now this works too.

I also thought I have an issue with S3D gcode. Turns out, that when I start the print from SD card, target temperature for the extruder is 0 while the bed heats up. Then it changes to also set a target temperature for the extruder, shortly before the bed is at temperature.
Maybe this helps someone?

This is to prevent cooking the filament in the nozzle, since often the nozzle gets to temp first. Personally, I just select preheat first, then the gcode after so they both heat at the same time. Never have any issues.
Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3
I print everything using Simplify3D. I manually use the preheat option via the menu first and have not had any problems.
I've also recently started using Octoprint and a Rasberry device - no need to manually do anything, I just select the gcode file and hit print from the web interface.
Very nice...

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3
I create an updated starting script for the MK3S in Simplify3d.
With this script, you will have a clean surface and nozzle after mesh bed leveling.
It's important to turn off "wait for temperature..." at the temperature settings for both, bed and extruder.
Also note, that you have to change the first pre-layer temperature setpoint from 1 to 2. The first layer temperature settings are made in the starting script.
Take a look at this. Without waiting for temperature, all axes will be home immediately when you start the print.
M190 S60 is the first layer temperature for the bed. It will head up.
M109 S180 is the mesh bed leveling temperature for the extruder and heads up after bed. With this settings, there are no filament blobs at the surface after leveling and also the nozzle is clean.
M109 S220 is the first layer temperature for the extruder. It will head up to this point after leveling is done and starts the print.
.
Hope you like it, have a nice print!
And if you think it's good, share it 😉

......
I haven't tried it yet but thanks in advance. 😉
Have you already tried the new 4.1.2 release? did you find any differences or improvements compared to the previous version?

Thank you, I assuming this will also work for the old MK3 not just the MK3S.
I tend to print PETG so thinking about 190 for extruder. Thanks again this looks simple and elegant.
Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3
I searched this thread but can't find an answer. I am using Josefs FFF profile, and it seems good, except the cooling fan never starts. Its set to go 100% at layer 2, but doesn't start. I have to either start it from a connected octoprint, or from the lcd console on the printer. Anyone else see this?

It doesn't seem to me that Josef's profile had this problem.
Have you tried other profiles, the default one of S3D to see if it makes the same problem?

Hi guys,
there is a brand new set of profiles for S3D, check the first post for more info 😉

Thanks for profiles update of S3D.I hope who the developer team periodically improve profiles and add more preset.
Slic3r P.E. is now a very complete and good slicer, but S3D too and is much diffused.....therefore...thanks again for this update.
P.S. [Off-Topic]
On the new forum, i suggest to put in evidence discussions like Firmware and Slic3r P.E. (Stable/Beta )

Hey Jakub, great news you guys are issuing new profiles for S3D - are you sure the files linked on the first post are the latest? These were made using S3D 4.1.1 and they don't contain settings for all the filaments in your changelog, I can only see PLA, ABS, PET and ColorFabb XT, not Prusament etc.
Thanks!

The readme file included in the downloaded zip file says it was tested on 4.1.2. The change log does not show they made any changes to the profiles, which makes me leery. I would feel better if the profile said 4.1.2 instead of 4.1.1...unless all they do is make an edit to the file.

RE: Simplify3D settings for the Original Prusa i3 printers
I have a stupid question -- I see that there was a mention of the new S3D profiles and instructions to go to the first post to find them. Where is the first post and how do I find the profiles? Thanks!
RE: Simplify3D settings for the Original Prusa i3 printers
Figured it out. 🙂
