Should Kores glue be thoroughy cleaned off after each print?

I'm starting to experiment with the use of Kores glue as a bond breaker between printed PETG and the PEI print bed, which otherwise often stick too tightly together.

However, I have no experience with Kores glue. Should it be thorougly cleaned off the print bed after each print is completed? Or, can I just pile more on wherever it's needed and start the next print?

I only use glue stick for PETG- I put one thin coat on, and print several PETG parts one after the other without any kind of cleaning. Just wipe the 'dust' off with my hand, and print another part. I printed all the black parts for the MK3 (one at a time) with just the one application. It lasts and lasts.

Why not just use window cleaner as noted in the materials manual? Works great for me and no mess to clean up afterward.

Well, I must say the Kores that came with the kit worked great on my first experiment using it for printing PETG. The PETG very easily released from the print bed with no problem. 😀

I can't say that I've tried window cleaner, but I previously was using IPA to clean between prints (as recommended by Joseph Prusa (JP) in his intro video), and the problelm is that the PETG sticks so tightly to the PEI build plate that it's difficult to get off at all. On larger models chunks of PETG may break off the model, sticking to the bed. Wouldn't window cleaner act essentially the same as IPA? JP portrays window cleaner as as a second choice substitute for IPA if you don't have any IPA available.

PLA is a different story. It doesn't seem to stick well enough to need a bond breaker. For PLA, cleaning with IPA (or I guess window cleaner) between prints (as recommended by JP) seems to work fine.

So, having said all that, are you still recommending window cleaner as a bond breaker for PETG?

FWIW - I use the window cleaner to clean the bed, apply a coat of the Kores glue only to the area to be printed on as well as the nozzle purge area. PETG is easy to remove after bed cools. I then clean all the bed with window cleaner before the next PETG printing. And, of course, use Kores again on the appropriate area.
If I’m then printing with PLA I use ISO to clean the bed before each PLA print. This has worked for me.... 😀

For large surface area PETG prints, Windex did not work well for me- too difficult to remove. Glue stick works far better in my situation.

The manual very specifically says NOT to use IPA for PETG because it will stick too well. Windex is expressly recommended for PETG.

Oh! Well, in that case I shall try it. Thank you! Should I get the kind with "Ammonia-D", or the kind without?

Without I think is best. At least thats what I use.

Ugh. I tried cleaning the Kores off the bed this morning, and it's not easy! I only made any progress when I resorted to acetone and a plastic scraper. That kinda helped, because the acetone softened up the Kores a bit, and the scraper scraped off the glue layer that softened. But it didn't finish the job, and I'm taking a break now, probably until tomorrow when I'll try again.

❓ ❓ ❓ How on earth do you get the Kores completely off? ❓ ❓ ❓

Should I try using stronger solvents, or would somehow melting it off at higher temperatures work?

As it stands, I can't even use the opposite side of the bed plate, because the Kores would probably glue it to the heat bed.

this is one reason why I don't usually use kores or similar adhesives...

it's not easy to remove at times...

however, have you tried hot soapy water ?

dish detergent and water seam to help with ahdesive like Kores!

Well, I'll be damned. That worked like magic. Practically no effort at all! Thank you!

Any suggestions on how I can get some stubborn PETG removed from the bed that's stuck on hard? That's all that remains at this point.

[Edit: not sure if there's a better way (?), but I just now managed to get the remaining PETG chunks off by heating the bed to the maximum 122C and using a plastic scraper. The main problem, though, was that the plastic scraper (from Home Depot) also started to melt! I'm guessing it's just cheap PE plastic. So, for future use, I need to find a plastic scraper with a higher melting point....]

Re: Should Kores glue be thoroughy cleaned off after each print?

I have no magic cure for stuck petg.... never managed to get it that stuck myself...

some folk report warming the build plate and using a spatula to remove the plastic...

as far as printing PETG, I started using talcum powder and tissue,

sprinkle a tiny bit of talc onto the build plate, then polish it in with a tissue so that there is no loose talcumpowder
wipe off with a clean tissue, and print onto the buildplate as normal.

the model should hold well, but release easily when the build plate is flexed...

less ladylike, but easier to manage is forehead grease, wipe your hand on your forehead and then on the build plate
rub the resulting grease well in, and print on top

both options also works for TPU!

Re: Cores- how thick a layer are you putting down? It should be as thin as you can make it. For removal, Windex and a paper towel takes it right off, or as Joan suggested a hot soap and water treatment.

Re: TPU- I just print direct to the bed. Removal is a super easy by simply dabbing denatured alcohol around the perimeter with a q-tip. Part lifts up like magic.
