Short kit suggestion
Apologies if this topic has been covered already (I did not find anything in a search), but I was wondering if it would be feasible to sell a "short kit" of non-printed parts only as an option for people who have access to another printer to make the remaining plastic bits. How much could this save on the kit cost? I think there would be a lot of appeal from users wanting to upgrade from lesser printers or building a second one. I know I would like the idea of being able to get a hardware kit that has undergone the usual Prusa quality control process on the structure, electronics, etc. vs. trying to find those parts elsewhere.
RE: Short kit suggestion
I doubt it'd make more than a few dollars difference so likely not worth the headache of a separate variant to stock/support; consider your own costs for a given printed part is typically on the order of tens of cents; now consider a firm like PR that buys their filament in bulk from filament-PM (and now even makes their own) that cost goes down even more.
Shipping weight savings would also be practically nil.
RE: Short kit suggestion
I suppose that's true...I thought it may be a decent time investment to print them all out, but perhaps that too is mitigated when you have a room full of printers.
RE: Short kit suggestion
even moreso if you consider all they need to do if they can't meet demand is add a few more... 🙂
RE: Short kit suggestion
they are up to 500 printers in the print farm and another 2-300 elsewhere in the plant
