sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
I was going to sell my mk2s and buy a mk3. But honestly after reading a lot of posts I am not sure if that is wise. As i see it now the print quality is far more seperior on the mk2s then on the mk3. Can anyone that has gone the same route give me some advise?
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
no keep the mk2s and wait a few months and then take another look.
i bought a mk3 it came i used it very disappointed. needed another 3d printer bought another mk2s put the mk3 in the box.
now have 2 working mk2s units and i'm happy. the mk3 is alpha/beta too many problems to be usable yet compared to the mk2s.

Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
I would say, if you care about print surface quality, I would definitely keep the mk2/s. There is something really not right with the mk3. This is a joke compared to what the print quality of the mk2. I've spent a few weeks testing different filaments, different slicers, different settings. The terrible print surface quality does not go away. Suffice to say....I regret buying the mk3.
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
Keep the Mk2. Wait a few months. Give up luxuries for a while and use the savings to buy a mk3 as well

Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
I've just built my MK3 this week and it's print quality is slightly worse than either of my MK2Ss. I'd also say keep the MK2S.
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
Keep the MK2. Wait and see, maybe one day my MK3 will be as good.
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
Keep it. I have had so many small issues with the 3. Its nice to have a dependable printer. I am sure the 3 will get there.
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
Keep it! Had an MK2, surface quality was better on the mk2, not as happy with the mk3 as I was with the MK2
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
I guess surface quality is a your milage may vary. Sliced with simplify3d on the MK3

Ok. This is really helpful. Something must be wrong on my end if this is what you're achieving with your mk3.
Was yours a kit of pre-built? Also, what layer height, filament type, print temp and speed were you using there. Do you find the same print quality with Slic3r PE too?

Slicer PE actually looks better but some of this print required supports, which is why I sliced it with simplify3d.
This was a kit build with the original parts, not current x carriage and x ends. Layer height at .20, 195c, speed is undetermined because I don't know how to check profile speeds in simplify3d, but it's slower than slic3r. I use inland, makergeeks, and push plastic filaments.
Once again, it's ymmv, but I could pollute this thread with absolutely stunning prints and surface quality (first layer, perimeter, and top layers) but I won't. 🙂

I would love to see these stunning prints of yours if you're up for sharing. 🙂
I have a problem with ymmv in that it shouldn't vary to the degree it seems to be if comparing mine to yours for instance. I'm also fairly certain that my problem is not limited to me. I have seen others with the same symptoms. 😕

I say ymmv because I've taken a ton of time to calibrate my printer and my slicer settings. Surface quality can be impacted by so many things, like Z height.
Maybe I'll throw together an imgur gallery but here is a charger holder / cable winder I printed for my macbook :
Edit: Here's another that shows excellent surface quality:

Interesting. Would you mind sharing your gcode with say, your apple cable tidy print (or the big one) for me to try and compare with your own by any chance please? It would really help me troubleshoot my issue.

Thanks man. Very much appreciated! 😉

No problem, please let me know how it prints for you. Also, you're going to see how awesome simplify3d supports print, if you haven't seen them already. Took a ton of time to dial those in too.
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
I believe I am actually seeing a lot of ringing after a corner. Can you also take the picture without flash? It is the ringing that is the issue on the mk3.

Could you also share your Simplify3D profile because I had same problem with printer and the solution was to change slicer from SLic3r to Simplify3D here's profile I'm using

At the left Simplify3D and Slic3r at the right, I had especially problem with overhangs in Slic3r which makes the printer unusable
Re: sell mk2s and buy mk3? yes/no
Quality of my freshly assambled prusa mk3 kit. It is my first 3d printer, i am using slic3r with default settings. Printed with 0.2 layer height
